How could you post that Riot cover when they had an album with this one?

The construction and expansion of Narita Airport in Japanese history led to one of the most infamous (and violent) conflicts between the Japanese government and the Japanese population, its bitterness still reflected in prominent cane-armed police at the airport. This conflict perhaps reflects the centrality of land-ownership tradition in traditional Japanese culture. The conflict was a major factor in deciding to build the new Osaka and Nagoya airports (Kansai and Chūbu respectively) offshore on reclaimed land, instead of again trying to expropriate land in heavily populated areas.

Does anyone know what the hell that damn Riot mascot is supposed to be anyways?
I remember back when I still lived at home with my parents my mom once walked into my room and saw the Fire Down Under cover and said “What is that thing?” and I was unable to tell her.

I believe its a baby harp seal.

There was a book called The life of the harp seal released in 1977 the same year as their first album which I believe to band could have got the idea from and they are known to be seen in the oceans around new york from time to time.

I actually love the Narita cover and think it's very tasteful.

I think the 'seal' as a mascot is brilliant!
Bizarre, groundbreaking & original all at the same time!
They should have done a 'Killers' style cover with the seal holding his victim by the scuff after slaughtering him with an axe!?!

Funny thing that RIOT seal mascot.. It could be the best example around of exactly how wild, free-thinking and unpredictable Metal could be back in the days. It's the kind of X-factor that no new "retro"-band could ever recreate, no matter how in-the-know and in touch with their roots they may be.

Riot's baby seal headed mascot actually scared me away from listening to Riot for awhile. Now I can sort of embrace it haha.

Beautiful creature. don't really have a clue how it managed to get featured on the cover. Maybe a graphical metaphor for "the evil has a friendly (innocent) face" or sth similar ... ? DaN, maybe you could expand on the topic of "x-factror"? Tnx.

X-factor = Whatever-factor. We'll do whatever we want no matter how bad or ugly or weird it may seem. That may have to do either with the music or with the lyrics, image, cover artwork etc. Well, at least that's what i understand from that term.
