NORTHWINDS rules. FLAMES & SPITFIRE too.

SARISSA is pretty cool; does anybody like them? DECEPTOR too.

A really good band from current times is REFLECTION. Their first album scared me off with its power-metallish cover art, but their second album, a concept album based on The Odyssey (no, it's composed of metal songs, not "pieces") is great. Epic/doom with a very weird edge to it because of the very slight "Mediterranean" feel of the solos and the accent of the vocals. Gorgeous guitar playing and crunchy, doomy riffs on some tracks. The artwork of the new one also just gives off musty, moodier, darker vibes, too. I'll have to pick up their first.

I really love the old Greek scene...my favourite album is definitely Northwind`s GODLY "Mythology"! From what I have heard I also like Exoristoi, Mystery, Deceptor and Sarissa. The first Vavel album is also very good, while the 2nd one is pure trash imo. I was a bit dissappointed about Crush, as they were proclaimed as the best Greek band by many people. Need to listen to them again.

About the newer bands, I don`t like it anymore...The last excellent band I heard was Clairvoyant, which album is probably my second favourite album from Greece...

Old/new Greek heavy metal

Post by solar eagle »

There is great number of interesting Greek bands from the '80s-'90s as already mentioned. Many promising old fashioned bands in the '00s,too:STRIKELIGHT,BATTLEROAR,DARK NIGHTMARE,POWERDROPS,RAGING STORM,VALOR,CRIMSON FIRE,SACRED BLOOD,CRYSTAL TEARS,POWERSTORM,EMBRACE FIRE,ELWING and so on.I also consider DEAD CITY and RELEASED ANGER (thrash metal)new hopes, indeed.

Cool to comeback to this thread.
Although i have never heard so much things as i wished to i make a quick review:

SARISSA(I prefer the 1994 album than the demo) total epic band with unique sound and approach.Maybe the best greek record ever.

CRUSH-Kingdom Of The Kings aggressive Heavy/Power reminding of old Running Wild. All the tracks are great, the pronunciation rules.Inside our country it is considered the most cult band(i don't agree totally).

VAVEL-I love both albums although the best is the S/T(the Second Death album is more professional, still great songs) by slight difference.I think i should upload some killer pics from the stage show from this band.Cult band indeed!

DECEPTOR-I never really liked this band.It is considered by many one of the best ever in technical speed/HM metal in and out of of Greece.

STENDOR-King Of Winter:Personally it is a top 10 band for without doubt and whoever don't admits it he must be deaf.To put it short the greek Thunderway(Hail!!) but with better production and better vocals.

LEVIATHAN-The two tracks in the Metal Gear compilation makes them one of the best and most professional greek bands i have heard.Flawless US power metal with perfect vocals.

WISDOM Good Power Metal

NORTHWIND Great band indeed but i consider them a bit light-weight.Some really great tunes to be found.

FLAMES One of the 5 best bands from Greece without doubt. And one of the best thrash bands ever.Extremely passionate thrash metal with unique touch.I consider as their best effort ''Merciless Slaughter'' and then followed by ''Summon The Dead''.Generally Flames never made a mediocre album.Highlights:The drumming in ''Merciless Slaughter'' and the uber-cult vocals of Nigel Foxxe(Just a question what is his real name i know only his first name which is Sakis the last name?Someone could help?)

NIGEL FOXXE'S INC. A good band some really good tuned to be found there.Highlights:Vocals/Pronunciation/Drumming and creeping guitar sound.

SPITFIRE Sorry to say it so but Spitfire has the worst vocals i have ever heard by a greek band. This guy destroys this masterpiece as far as it music goes.Fuck!! if only they had another vocalist!

VICE HUMAN I consider them overrated.Boring HM.

CLAIRVOYANT Some good tracks though.

Do you have any Crystal Tears stuff you can upload? I heard Skies Of Eternity and it was very epic but Its only in 128, I got it from some blog that specialized in greek metal but they seemed to disappear overnight. Anybody here heard Arryan Path? They are greeks from Cyprus very epic stuff.

Does anyone know if Clairvoyant are still alive? I would like to hear more killer cuts such as "Crazy Wind" or "Death At 300km"...

Well, that's why they're forgotten. Bet they were both good.

...Because Crush are remembered for their legion of LPs? Most greek bands are good for 4 songs, in grand Olde Metal Tradition.

ARRYAN PATH are from Cyprus. They had brought out Osiris" and "Return to Troy" demos before their first album ''Road to Macedonia''.Their stuff is in the WARLORD tradition, epic metal to the end!As for CRYSTAL TEARS,very good heavy/power metal in the '90s style.Apart from ''Skies of Eternity'',I like their ''Embrace the horror'' and ''Choirs of Immortal''the latter with rather rough female vocals.

Reflection -Oddysia is a great mix of epic metal and Doom with a large dollop of the Maiden sound associated with the NWOBHM era. Still haven't heard their first.
Airged L'Amh -The Silver Arm - Awesome Epic Metal get it or die ignorant!!!
Elwing -War - anyone who loves Death or Glory- era Running Wild should pick this up post haste...
