The only gay as far as the music choises,is that to follow like sheeps, what someone tries to persuade us.I am glad people follow their tastes and not hear everything one says. Before some time i said in the Miskatonic that i hate MOTORHEAD or love METAL ARCHIVES and look what 35 year old guys boring as hell told about me.Is this right to abuse in that way because he don't likes a band that is ''in'' for the TRUE METAL CIRCLES.We have thank god democracy, don't we?Everything you say in the MISK and don't like this that (more than 1000 posts  )guys that consist a clique is considered blasphemy and they abuse you without reason. Is this right stance for normal,easy-going people?I think the onlyone that supported me(well with his own way...)was Dan which said things as they are.

CIRITH UNGOL-Strangely enough Cirith Ungol was one of my first bands from Metal to hear even before i got to heared Judas Priest!!! Cirith Ungol was always one of my fave bands,i liked all about them simply that!

When I hear Cirith Ungol's "Master of the pit" I sometime thinks this is the best song ever recorded by humans, Cirith Ungol can do no wrong imo

I also like Slough Feg a lot. I consider Twilight of the idols as one of the best albums released beyond the 80's, really perfect stuff for me.

What did they tell you? What do you mean by the word ''abuse''?

Hey nothing special, just joked disagreeing but i don't find always their jokes entertaining.Strangely enough the Metal Archives in the Slaughtered Lamb thread of MISK had vanished(?!) what happened? Some people take it for granted that we must be MOTORHEAD fans, are they on the other hand fans of GRAVESTONE,TYRANT,STORMWITCH,MANIAC,STORMWAVE?No  Then please leave us to hear these unpopular bands and stik to the masses!

Stop it. About every truly amazing band there were in the forgotten underground metal scene of the 80's has been mentioned.

GOTHAM CITY, ZONE ZERO, TYRANT, CIRITH UNGOL = Masters of metal, and Agents of Steel alike. Period. Case closed.

"Every band" is quite harsh don't you think ? all mentioned except CU suck in my opinion (and no, it's not 'period, case closed'). There are plenty more that were very much great bands like Hell, Manilla Road, Tyrant's Reighn, Black Hole, Mistreater, Graven Image, Killen, Apocalypse / Omega, Desolation Angels etc.

None of these bands are talked about extensively enough to be considered "overrated" even in the underground, as much as I love obscure stuff I can see why alot of bands are obscure because they were subpar.

Re: What do you consider overrated by the underground ?

Just commenting on the two most shocking picks you made  :
Boris wrote:Tyrant (Hold back the Lightning) - they are just mediocre or below. The vocals are beyond annoying and the songs are just not interesting. It may cost around 200 - 300 euros, but it still sucks. The only good thing on this one are the first seconds of the b-side.
ARRGH! Blasphemy! I just recently heard this for the first time, and it totally and completely crushes! Perfect and one of the best NwobHM I ever heard!
Lord Weird Slough Feg - Can't understand the fuss about this one. Propagandized as the most true metal band ever, that would never sell out and will keep the metal spirit going and whatever else. OK, but their music's boring and annoyingly weird. I don't like it and don't understand it.
ARRRRGHHHH!!!
Probably best "new" band beyond the 80ies! Their irish/celtic influence is unique and brilliant as are the vocals!! Best album TWILIGHT OF THE IDOLS, best track is from debut THE RED BRANCH!!
Also fantastic: HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE's debut (w/Mike Scalzi)

Well, it's only that, besides Manilla Road, none of those bands can hold a candle to Gotham City, Zone Zero or Tyrant. Reality is harsh. Period. Case closed.

Let's talk about the Swedish scene.Although tons of great bands there are some bands overrated by some known persons... :wink:I don't believe some people considering these bands as three of the top 5 swedish metal.

I still believe that AXEWITCH should stayed in demo. This band's releases are some of the most average bands of the swedish 80's.Can't believe why they rereleased 4 full-lengths albums and high-vaultage released all of them. They were tons of other swedish bands for official rereleases.

ZONE ZERO still is overrated. Why do you think it is one of the best Swe-acts?

CRYSTAL PRIDE-same 81.It is very good musically but the vocals destroy it(very thin-female vocals, irritating some times).A man behind the microphone would made it a masterpiece.

That some examples i would liked to refered to.

Bringing up everyone's "favourite" subject AND slagging some classic Swedish Metal in the process - this will hardly win you the poplularity vote around here

Seriously though, I do think there's plenty of Swedish bands that are overrated in the sense that they get namedropped far too often than their actual music deserves, but ZONE ZERO and early CRYSTAL PRIDE are not included. Sussie's vocals might not be that special, but I can't see how they would ruin the music in any way.

Long, impopular list of Swedish acts to be thrashed soon..

Perhaps ... Slauter Xstroyes?? Well, I'll have to give it some more spins, the first riff is an absolute killer, but as I remember the "No Idea" was extremely gay?! Here, it's on, so I'll have to wait and see :)

(I didn't know the existance of the band until I ran into a discussion with a well-known joker from Slovenian scene about the thrash scene, and he brought up Slauter Xstroyes and talked about them as a thrash band ... so it was a very unpleasant surprise at first :) )

Add me to the list of people who find Slough Feg to be overrated. Not bad at all but I much prefer Scalzi’s other band, Hammers of Misfortune. I heard HoM first and immediately wanted to hear what Slough Feg was like, but I was disappointed. So that’s where I’m coming from.

As for Zone Zero and Crystal Pride, can you really call them overrated? I haven’t heard that many people raving about them.

I really didn't think ARC were all that! Not bad, but nothing great. I adore Cirith Ungol. I find Lord Weird okay for a few songs, a lot of their material misses with me. The Brocas Helm connection is overplayed. Brocas Helm have not recorded a bad song in their period as a band imo, the same cannot be said about Slough Feg.

Please don't give me more of this... ZONE ZERO are simply gods. Divine. Greater than life itself. As for AXEWITCH I can see why someone does not get all aroused by them... But as far as I am concerned, out of LP-bands of Sweden, only GOTHAM CITY and perhaps MERCY and HEAVY LOAD were better.

SLOUGH FEG rules. Rarely have I heard such a tasteful, original take on classic metal during the last decade. For sure one of the best new bands in later years, although it's been 11 years since their first album now. As far as I'm concerned they are much better than BROCAS HELM.
