some of the most expensive records are not expensive monetarily. They are expensive because of the huge amount of time and effort invested into finding a copy. Regardless of the price, the money part was the inexpensive aspect.

That's true. I don't wanna know how much time I've spent in browsing through mountains of 7"s at flee-, metalmarkets and second hand shops, hoping to find that Hell-single, well I have it now after grabbing it of the net and I will take it into my fucking grave

Ive paid $50-$60 for some stuff, only because its something I REALLY wanted. That rarely ever happens though, since I dont have a lot of extra money.
I paid $60 for Dofka: Toxic Wasteland LP (Im a huge Dofka fan, and at that point I didnt have the CD from the same era, which I luckily got for a lot cheaper). I paid around $50 for Terror: Up From The Grave/Distributing Pain original demo tapes plus a T-shirt (DEFINATELY worth it) from Gina Klein (if you know the Stuck In The Sewer live demo then you know who Gina is....hahaha).
Usually if something would cost a ridiculous amount of money (usually obscure 12"s like Wild Pussy and stuff like that) Ill pay for someone to rip it and send it to me on CD-R. Im usually running very low on extra money, and I really cant afford to buy expensive release unless the music is incredibly kick ass, and the packaging could be beneficial to me in some way (containing lineup/bibliographical info that I could possibly use to track down a band member or eventually help obtain more of thier stuff).

hmm about 400 dollars got me the first Sabbat and X 7" singles.
got the Mein Kampf Speeder 7" first pressing dead mint condition for 250. which is actually a good deal for that record although still a ton of money.
I always thought i would have to pay about 600 dollars or more for the Zadkiel Highway Z flexi 7" because I have never seen it for sale or trade anywhere. But one day a friend of mine sold it to me at a Jurassic Jade gig for 300. It came with an alternate sleeve version too. it was my holy grail for years!

the grave robbers hit some wire that makes Curse of the Pharaohs start playing at ear piecing volumes that is enough for the non metal fan to run out of the pyramid within seconds.

200 $ for the SAVAGERS MLP. That was a big exception though, normally I try not to pay more than a 100 euros for a record.
