Yes, i can see why you would say that, but then there were many albums from that time that followed the Entombed/Nihilist blueprint. It's all about opinions though, I love it, you not so much. Darkthrone are one of my favourite bands, the later albums are not so essential but the first 6 kill

J.K. wrote:As for the first Pestilence LP, yes it is really great ! The aggressiveness of Van Drunen's vocals always turn me on.
Agreed.

You might want to edit that. The reunited Martyr have an EP/album out as well, full of groove metal.

Sticking with the Dutch Metal I'll go with

Emerald - Down Town: Best in your face air siren heavy metal album around

And some NWOBHM:

Wolf - Edge Of The World: Best melodic without wimping out heavy metal classic.
No, i don't edit that, i've heard the new songs and they suck! Agreed, but that doesn't spoil the first two LPs for me at all!

EMERALD, good call by the way.

I meant editing 'both' to 'first two' to avoid someone accidently checking out the new stuff. :D

One of the best album from your country J.K.

I like TURBO, but never heard this album.

as for ROOT, I never understand why people like this band. There is maybe 3/4 songs that I can listen, but not more. And sometimes they're just too "experimental/weird" for me. I prefer Törr or Master's Hammer.

Astra: Yeah I know this band a little and it sounded real cool. Never bought something from them yet.

If that can help you, here are things that could fit to what I mean by "obscure" and "totally killer":

FUTURE TENSE mLP (discovered here)

ION BRITTON EP (discovered here too)

GLACIER EP

SARCOFAGUS "Envoy of Death" LP

LUST "We'll Never Die" LP

OZ "Fire in The Brain" LP

AT WAR "Ordered To kill" LP

HIROSHIMA (swe) EP

SAVAGE DEATH "Mass Genocide" Demo

WARHAMMER (UK) "Abattoir of Death" Demo

WARHEAD (belgium) "The Day After" LP

STORMTROOPER "Armies of The night"

etc.

So Heavy/Epic, Speed/Thrash, Death/Thrash or Black/thrash, wathever! Even 70's vibes.

If you're into proto-death metal, try ARCH ENEMY - Violent Harm.

I'll try, I feared you were spoken of the swedish mainstream band

Anyway I'm currently trying the "hell's burnin' up" and it seems to be perfect for me.

Gonna add a few more:

PROUD - 'Fire Breaks The Dawn'
COMMANDER - 'The High 'n' Mighty'
SACRED RITE - 's/t' EP
WILD DOGS - 'Reign of Terror'
APRIL 16th - 'Sleepwalking'
ARSON ' Speak No Evil'
DRIVE - 'Characters In Time'
DEFENDER - 'City Ad Mortis'
LIEGE LORD - ALL
OLIVER MAGNUM - 's/t' LP
EMERALD - 'Armed For Battle' EP (the best ;))
AHAT - 'The March'
ALIAS - 's/t' + 'Metal To Infinity'
AVALON - 'Live Or Die'
SNOW WHITE 12"
NIGHTCRAWLER - 'Soldier In Time' EP
SACRED BLADE - 'Of The Sun + Moon'

Deaf/Death Dealer were mentioned but I'd say the 'unreleased' album 'Journey Into Fear' is their masterpiece. Also think the first 3 VENGEANCE RISING albums are great.

Newer Doom Metal CD releases I don't see people mention much:

COLD MOURNING - 'Lower Than Low'
PALE DIVINE - 'Thunder Perfect Mind'

I only knew two bands in your list Daniel.

LIEGE LORD, that I know and love a lot!

WILD DOGS, I got this LP for less than $2 in a "I don't know how to translate it in english", you know, people selling their stuff in the streets 1 ou 2 times in a year. (BROCANTE in french).

You really like that one that much? It has a great sound, but the songs are really boring in my opinion.
