I rate Dio and Ozzy period Sabbath about equally high. The last Ozzy albums weren't all that good, and Heaven and Hell and The Mob Rules were fantastick albums. I even love it when Dio does Ozzy songs on Live Evil.
Good to see some love for Born Again as well. The production on it is a bit off, there are "filler" songs, but over all it's still a very good album. Actually, Sabbath did some good songs with Tony Martin too, so people who like more melodic 80s metal should definitely check that out if they haven't (even though those releases seem pale and ordinary when compared to the best Sabbath releases).

Heaven and Hell is the fist BS album I listened to and it probably saved my life once or twice in the past. Still love it. I can't listen to Mob Rules though, it's the same album all over again.
The first one is a light-consuming monolith that fell from the sky. It defines despair, doom and heaviness and, in my books, is responsible for a huge part of the Heavy Metal aesthetic code. The Black Sabbath LP still sounds otherworldly.
The next 4 are nearly as good, though I tend to listen to Volume 4 more often than the others, skipping the dreadful Changes, oh I'm going through changes.... Evil Whinny Dwarf Ozzy From The Future alert!
People should definitely check out the Toni Martin albums. Mr. Iommi still had some good riffs to deliver and Martin has a great voice.
And, I almost forgot to mention that I physically hate Born Again.

BTW, someone mentioned above a couple of his favorite Sabbath songs. Good idea i think. Which ones are your faves? Here's some of mine:
Battle of Tyr/Odin's Court/Valhalla
Kill in the spirit world
Falling off the edge of the world
Die young
Glory ride
The seventh star
The warning (yes it rips)
Never say die
A national acrobat
Born again
Good against Evil, Evil sure to win

Great !! I love Dio's interpretation of Ozzy's era classics !! "Live Evil" is one of the best live album ever released.great_knuthulhu wrote: I even love it when Dio does Ozzy songs on Live Evil.
Some of my fave SABBATH songs are :
Zero the Hero
Iron Man
Heaven & Hell
Electric Funeral
Symptom of the Universe
Voodoo
Into the Void
The Sign of the Southern Cross
Changes
Children of the Sea
I don't know much about SABBATH's albums post "Born again", I only have "Tyr" and the album recorded with Glen Hughes. It's been more than 5 years that I promised to listen seriously to the Tony Martin's era, but never found the time.

No, Gillan is OK when he sings in Deep Purple. It's just that Gillan's voice doesn't mix well with the Sabbath sound. It's like I'm listening to 2 albums playing together.ION BRITTON wrote:Uuuhmmm, Ian Gillan is your favourite singer right?Brainbiter wrote: And, I almost forgot to mention that I physically hate Born Again.![]()
Rainbow+Sabbath= good idea. Deep Purple+Sabbath= one of the worst ideas in rock history, recorded under one of the worst album covers.
Somebody from Greece would probably bring this up sooner or later: search in youtube for "Gillan get away" and enjoy a timeless classic.

Favorite BS songs:
Black Sabbath
NIB
Sleeping Village
Electric Funeral
Into the Void
Wheels of Confusion
Under the Sun
Hole in the Sky
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Killing Yourself to Live
Neon Knights
Heaven and Hell (Well, if it seems to be real, it's illusion. For every moment of truth, there's confusion in life)
Die Young
The most embarrassing BS song apart from the likes of Changes, Am I Going Insane etc:
Sweet Leaf. I used to love that song. The riff is HUGE but the lyrics are stupid, stupid, stupid.

They're worth investigating. Martin has a pretty good, if a bit anonymous, voice and Iommi could still write good tunes and riffs.omen of hate wrote:I don't know much about SABBATH's albums post "Born again", I only have "Tyr" and the album recorded with Glen Hughes. Don't agree at all. I may not agree with the subject matter, but I think the lyrics are pretty good as lyrics go. Inserting cocaine in a lyric set up in the ways of a love song isn't exactly original, wasn't even at the time, but I feel they did it pretty well.Brainbiter wrote:The most embarrassing BS song apart from the likes of Changes, Am I Going Insane etc:

Just listened to it again.great_knuthulhu wrote:Don't agree at all. I may not agree with the subject matter, but I think the lyrics are pretty good as lyrics go. I can say that I feel only half-embarassed when the volume is up but I can't avoid the mental image of a wasted Ozzy bending over that "sweet leaf" screaming "I L-O-V-E you sweet leaf! ...though you can't hear..." with tears in his eyes and Geezer comforting him "It's ok mate, it's ok..."
It's not the topic that I find so stupid (like you said, other bands have done this many times), it's the dead-seriousness of the lyrics. You gave to me a new belief.

The Sabotage cover is cl-ASS in red spandex. Very disturbing stuff... Still, not a match for the red devil baby with the yellow fangs and the tail.Helm wrote:The sabotage cover is CLASS hahah
