Nobody should be ashamed of liking Blind Guardian. I love everything they've done up through Nightfall in Middle-Earth, though, admittedly, they lost the scent after that. I'm sure many here stop after Tales or Imaginations though.

Edit: Somebody mentioned Tokyo Tales. I also think the later 2 disc live CD (called simply "Live" I believe) is very good, though it's notably more polished and obviously contains some more of the later material.

Only late 80s/early 90s fast Blind Guardian, the first 4 minus that bard song bollocks. I only held onto Tokyo Tales as it's a great live album with a good collection of songs from the era I like most. I have to say Battalions of Fear reigns supreme.

Imaginations and Nightfall are not bad in parts, but so-so. I was really disappointed with the DVD live show and I have cared not to listen to the last 3 albums after hearing a track or two. Hansi should of stuck to playing bass. He isn't a great singer.

I can't forget the day that musicassette came into my hands ... it was Somewhere Far Beyond, BG became instantly my 'new' fav band back in time and it's still now my favourite album from BG, by far.

There are so many songs I don't even understand why they aren't considered by fans or themselves too (rarely played live), "Ashes to Ashes" for its speed and "Quest for Tanelorn" for the thrashy main riff are two of their heaviest songs for example (and fantastic guitar solos !), or what about the second part of Bard's Song ... and of course the all time classics ("Journey..." in spite of all).

The whole album is pure gold, there isn't one song which is weak (ok maybe only "that" part of the title track lol), even the ballads are their best.

For me, n.1 all time power/speed album ever.

'Somewhere...' was also my first encounter with BG, and i instantly fell in love w/ 'em too! It is an incredible album. Getting it was a total pain in the ass here in the US in the early-miid 90s. A friend and I had been looking for their stuff and couldn't find anyone selling BG, so he ended up special ordering a copy through the local indie store. Took 'em 2-3 months to find ANY BG album and import it (and this store was well-connected and very used to filling odd special orders)! He picked it up and made me a tape copy instantly, and we've played it to death ever since A few months later Sentinel Steel got copies of 'Battalions' in stock and I bought 2; one for each of us. Slowly over the next few years I pieced together their back catalog through SS and Exploding Neds Tunes

I think I've spent 10x the price of each BG cds on phone calls ! (same for Savatage cds lol).

Who would expect that years later with internet you could have those cds for a couple of bucks each

Internet nothing, I can go to the local indie store and buy their entire discography off the shelf now!

My 'big break' on Blind Guardian cd's came out of the blue. My folks sent me a 'care package' at college. Upon opening it, instead of the usual snack food and greeting cards I discovered the box was packed with power metal cd's! They had gone to a local record show and found a guy set up with tons of Euro imports. The box included:

BG- Tales from the Twilight World
BG- Somewhere Far Beyond (replacing the cassette)
BG- Follow the Blind
Conception- parallel minds
Kamelot- 1 of their 1st 2 (I forget which)
Capricorn- inferno

Several year earlier while in high school, I was sick as a dog and couldn't go to the local record show with my dad (who collects oldies vinyl). Now my dad doesn't know the difference between Iron Maiden and Iron Butterfly. Yet somehow he managed to bring me back a pile of cassettes (pre-CD days for me) out of the blue, including:
--Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
--Peace Sells but Who's Buying
--Rust in Piece
--Keeper of the 7 Keys II
--Twisted into Form

If I asked my parents to get Tales from the Twilight World. Gave them a print out with the title in big bold letters at the top, a big picture of the cover of the album, directions to the stores which have the album in stock and a specific warning in three fold NOT to buy anything else if they fail, they'd still bring back a Rammstein or K*rn album.

I guess I'll need to go a store myself this week.

My first experience with BG was hearing “Time Stands Still” and I loved it right away. Nightfall would probably be my favorite if it weren’t for all those interludes… as a result I’d go with Imaginations (Tales and Somewhere Far Beyond are not far behind either). I actually like all their albums except the last 2 (well, I’ve only heard a couple tracks of the newest but it didn’t sound that different from A Twist In The Myth).

I think that would apply to most parents. Mine are capable if they have a list; on those 2 occasions they apprently had kept old birthday or christmas lists

I used to ask one of my aunts for the most OTT albums possible for Xmas. She's nice but very conservative, so I got a kick out of her having to go into a record store and ask for a copy of Carcass or Napalm Death

That reminds me that my grand father once offered me for Xmas a MODERN TALKING lp. He choosed it because "the guys on the cover had long hairs".
