I might sound blasphemous to some, but I don't like this band. And it has nothing to do with the artwork.

I simply don't find the songs powerful enough, I prefer the more metallic side of NWOBHM.

Well they started out in the 70's, so it's no surprised they're more rock oriented than metallic....

I'm covering two of the discussions on this thread with one reply

1. This band might not be to everyones tastes, they are not out and out metal, but they are not from that era.
The CD that is about to be released contains in my opionion the finest set of tracks for this genre in that era. Some of these tracks have NEVER been heard by most of their fans and they will be gobsmacked.
These are crafted tunes with intelligent lyrics and if you dont like them, then I will not lose sleep over it. To have seen them live in 79/80 was an AMAZING experience..

2. The cover design. I worried that they would end up with some appalling cover design. However, I'm glad they've gone for something quite simple, i.e a photo of the band from back in 78/79.
The background is birmingham city centre (ENGLAND) ( I believe they are on top of the holiday Inn hotel).
I must admit I dont like the RED logo on the top . That is not Jameson Raid to me. It should be black on White or White on Black, but I can live with it.

My own introducion to the band was their 2nd single, "The Hypnotist", many years ago. I thought it was OK at the time but not as earthshattering as other "new"(old) discoveries at the time. When I finally got to hear the debut EP they really blew me away and I've come to appreciate all of their recordings unregardless. Terry's guest appearances on KIT and HOA surely helped too...
Will definitely pick this one up in one form or another - and I've got no problems with the cover art what so ever. Generic? Yes, but I've seen so much more awful ones before so who gives a crap..

...and since the subject will be brought up sooner or later: Vinyl?

The CD has got from what I can gather a 24 page booklet which is what I'm really looking forward to.
Yep I was around in dec 1979 to see them when they played on the same bill as Budgie, samson, medusa and Iron maiden. They made an impression. From then it was an open air gig followed by them "supporting " def leppard and then 5 or 6 more intimate club/town hall venues up until 1982. Fantastic memories. I have tickets for the 2 gigs in July prior to the HOA.

Dude, you really should share those memories in some form or other

What other olde forgotten NWOBHM acts did you catch at the time? Feel free to start a separate thread on the subject.

I spilled the beans on the jameson raid forum and all the acts I saw at Bogarts Birmingham England back in 1980. Magical.
If I get the time I will spill the beans here as well.

But for now (remember this was back in 79/80) at pub venues

Heard this band quite a while back but i don't really remember being impressed much as they didnt sound 'heavy' enough as other NWOBHM bands but with all these positive comments here maybe i should give em another go...

They are not out and out metal.
They are a heavy rock band and though they use the metal title they dont readily fit onto this.
They are not to everyones tastes but believe me if you had seen them live you would be hooked.
They drew a big 'biker' following which proves they must have been a 'heavy' live band
I suggest you check them out again.

The people that don't think this is "heavy" or "metal" enough, I wonder if they listen to DEEP PURPLE, SCORPIONS, UFO, AC/DC, etc and think the same thing? If so, then your tastes are consistent.... if not then, I don't know what to say....

I for one love SCORPIONS and quite a few UFO tracks. I won't even try to compare JR with SCORPIONS, the first SCORPIONS albums are from another galaxy and cannot be topped easily. UFO might not be as heavy or metallic as JR, but they have far better and much more exciting tracks, in my opinion that is.
