A lot of the timeI felt like the Miskatonic crowd was looking for the next messiah in new bands - heaping too much praise on some acts that happened to be acquainted with forum-regulars as if there was some need to find new objects of praise every few months - when really if everyone cared about the old stuff as much as they purport they shouldn't give two shits about anything else. Exceptions allowed of course.

Miskatonic was awesome and the ultimate metal forum in all ways but one (very important one). It was closer to my "ideology" and my view on metal than this forum I would say. I'd much rather listen to the new While Heaven Wept album than Wyzard or some other crap "cult" metal and I'd much rather discuss a new release on Shadow Kingdom than the matrix number of some rare cd that most certainly sucks anyway.

The big downside of Miskatonic was the almost complete lack of good climate for discussion. For the last two or so years I just never bothered to get into discussions there. It was no use. I was banned once (I think it was because I tried to argue that Stormwitch were a good band) and though the ban was eventually lifted it sort of changed things at least for me. I used the forum mainly as a resource of news regarding releases, gigs, tours etc.

I don't exactly hope that the forum returns, I hope some forum can take it's place. With flaws removed.

Even though I was not a member very long (just over a year) there were some worthy discussion's on there ableit even if they were from a few years ago

Saying that it did feel sometimes you had to be part of the "in crowd" , had to toe the party line if you know what I mean. If you did not you would get showered with abuse

What's wrong with The River?

The Miskatonic forum was an invaluable resource for finding out about pretty much every new release going. It saved a hell of a lot of trawling around various sites for info.

And I certainly don't think there was an abundance of Pagan Altar threads?

It'll be damn well missed, and I'd like to think it'll be back soon enough.

I'd been thinking to join that forum, since I remember you could only read if you'd joined, but I never made that step. I don't regret it. I've got bad "posture" even here.

Such complete bullshit. Exactly how many years did you spend on the Miskatonic forum before you got banned?? There have been PLENTY of conversations about old school Metal. If there was a surplus of threads about new bands, they had absolutely nothing to do with looking for a "messiah" and had everything to do with enthusiasm for killer new music. New blood. What really confuses me is your last statement about if people gave a shit about the old stuff as much as they let on that they shouldn't give two shits about anything else. I admit the the post of mine you quoted wasn't the best thought out thing ever, it was written in too much haste - I can't remember exactly what I was thinking. But in general that place was slow and boring, as a resource it was great, but the atmospere was shitty - and you can see for yourself lots of other people think so too.

I was on Miskatonic for years.

Who is 'we'? Are you some sort of spokes-person for the Miskatonic Frat Club?
