Well, last time I checked Manilla Road was pretty quirky and to my knowledge they have never been mainstream.

You know, it's no problem you don't like the newer Manilla Road albums, that's fine, it's just your opinion and you're entitled to it. The problem is how you had to attach a fucking rant where you basically declared everybody who does like it an idiot who pretends to like something out of loyalty to a band name, and an asshole who is too lazy to dig a little deeper to find good stuff from little known bands!

Basically you're assuming nobody really likes a new Manilla Road album for real, they just give MR more of a chance just because 'it's MR' and they feel pressured to say it's good even though they don't think so. Not only is that obvious bullshit, it is also rude and it is pompous because you're putting yourself at a piedestal.

I HAVE tried to listen to the new MR for instance, and it was BORING, and the reason why it is more boring and less 'worthy' of my time than some old not-so-perfect stuff is that the other material I'll listen to has a different energy and atmosphere of its own, a new MR album is just a band that once was amazing sounding shit. It doesn't sound any less shit cos 'hey it's MR', I don't respect bands in that way that I have to give anyone more of a chance than others, and I feel no 'peer-pressure' to say something is good if I don't think so.

If there are new releases available from distros and shops then that's mainstream to me, in the sense that there's no real effort involved in getting them.

No, I'm not assuming those things you inferred, I'm saying sometimes it can be like that - from experience - not that everyone who likes it sucks.

MR used to be a quirky band, the newer releases are just safe and boring. And guess what, I don't hate all contemporary bands or records.

Well, if you weren't assuming that then your rant was totally uncalled for.

I don't see how the new MR records would be safer than the old ones. In fact, as far as "quirkiness" goes, Spiral Castle is the most complex and unorthodox MR album ever, with the possible exception of The Deluge.

Damn, I usually by my new releases through distro's and shops.

I'm a mainstream bastard. :(

I used to watch for Viking ships at the coast (to raid their heavy metal load) but they never came. They are afraid of my heritage. :(

I absolutely love Atlanits Rising - Great MR album... atlantis rising - decimation - resurrection and - seige of atland are my standouts - but the whole album destroys..

Spiral Castle has not clicked - but I am sure it will -

I loved voyager (i have the beautiful brown vinyl gatefold that hr did and it is a work of art - with great live bonus tracks - which includes resurrection)...

MR can do no worng - I alos just got the Live after midnight vinyl - and it is cool as hell - herman hill is a nice early tune..

Atlantis Rising is their weakest album if you ask me. It's not bad, just incredible boring. Spiral Castle on the other hand, is very good. Very atmospheric and quite complex at times. Their best album after the comeback.

manilla road has NEVER released a bad album. they've released a number of albums that i don't like (such as atlantis and spiral), but none of them are fundamentally bad.

as far as their most unorthodox album, i'd say either courts of chaos or circus maximus (both of which rule).

also, feel free to check the link in my sig to hear my band's cover of necropolis. it's okay!

Never liked AR; the production is very 'noisy' and makes it hard to listen to, and Shelton's vocals sound terrible IMO. Haven't bothered with their other new albums. They made a couple of killer albums once upon a time, but I'm not a big fan of their catalog after 'open the gates'

No, no, Hellroadie didn't sing on Atlantis Rising at all, it's all Shelton.

Hellroadie sings on Spiral Castle and Gates of Fire together with Shelton. Maybe Nightsblood would like the vocals on those albums better.
