Yeah, i didn't expect much from that to be honest, and i was absolutely positively surprised, great power metal with iron balls!!

Sgt., in what sense they are weird? ...

Well, SIGN OF THE JACKAL did only two songs so far, but both totally slay in my opinion, but i also like HIGH SPIRITS a lot, but maybe not evry song as much.
REALMBUILDER is a band with a very clever concept, but they seem to have a lack of skills to deliver it properly. They (try to) play obscure epic metal in a MANILLA ROAD sense, but some songs are just a bit wayward. Listen to their myspace songs, and maybe you know what i mean. I woudn't be surprised though if they end up as a cult band for some fans.

Agree on both.

highlights so far
In Solitude -amazing blackened heavy metal following in the wake of Portrait. I'm friggin glad I own the Lp
Dark Forest -s/t I can only agree with this very strong first slab of straight nwobhm. One funny thing is the melodies sound sometimes similar to the black metal band Mitothyn

at any rate this is a grower, I play it all the time now
Biggest disappointment
Candlemass - Death Magic Doom - a snorefest from start to finish, I played it twice and now it's gathering dust in a cranny. and I'm talkin about my favourite band.

Was not the biggest fan of this tape but I have to admit it's pretty promising/professional for a first attempt. Also nice work on the Promo-Tape.

Man I don't know, only a couple of listens into the new Believer but I don't think it's half-assed or anything. Pretty composed, structuralist following of the last few Believer albums... fitting production. I don't have any favourites because it's not the sort of music you can pick up in a couple of listens. If things stick to my head after a couple more listens it seems like a winner to me!
How is Realbuilder weird, also? I like weird and if it's a weird epic doom band then I might hunt it down.

I thought Dark Forest was nearly as bad as Alestorm but with Trolls/Nature stuff instead of boney pirates and shit
I don't know why it's put on the NWOBHM side, can't see much of that, it's totally that jolly, spastic Folk/Power Metal like aforementioned

There is one album I forgot:
HELVETETS PORT - Exodus To Hell
Not everybody in Germany likes it, but I think it´s cool

.
I also bought the REALMBUILDER LP but haven´t heard it enough to write a bit more about it.

They sound pretty excellent to me! Their mission statement is honest too.

I think I have bought 0 releases from 2009. Looking forward buying the new Asphyx LP at their show this weekend though!
