You're not really after the early 70s progressive, psychedelic and/or bluesy hard rockers, but the late 70s acts which were closer to 1979NWOBHM, right? There's a ton of it about.
Ram Jam - Portrait of the artist as a young ram (heavier than their debut, less bluesy than Black Betty)
Sorcery - Stunt rock (but don't pay the amount of money some dealers want for it - it should be relatively cheap

Hand of Doom - Poisonoise (but you're probably familiar with that classic album)
Centaurus - s/t (often found overpriced, pretty good album but try to get a listen before buying)
GranMax - Kiss heaven goodbye (Some people think this is not too hot, but to me this is pretty great.

Yes knuthulhu, this style is exactly what i was going for. Ive only heard of Hand of doom but not the others. Thx for the list and anymore will be welcome.

Well, pretty hard to tell what the exact definition of pre-NWOBHM is. Bands like UFO or THIN LIZZY have been mentioned in the very first post, so why not RUSH or TRUST?
If you know any better ones, then you should post them, as well.

Those bands are influences to quite some NWOBHM. This is just a 60's/70's heavier rock suggestion thread. Actually, you can also suggest some 70's Disco bands, they're also pre-NWOBHM.
I suggest The Flying Hat Band, Sweet and Hawkwind.

KISS, maybe ?? Just joking... OK, I've misread this thread, it's more about 70's hard-rock ... To me, NWOBHM takes its roots in the UK glam scene (SLADE, SWEET, T-REX, MOTT THE HOOPLE, ..), some pub-rock (Ian Dury, DR FEELGOOD) some UK 70's hard-rock stuff (URIAH HEEP, IRON CLAW, POSSESSED ...) and even some 1977 punk influences ... (THE CLASH, EDDIE & THE HOT RODS, ...).

I'm sure more bands than Iron Maiden were influenced by their double leads, but I can't think of any. WA were really good at their best.

Came to think about ol' brits Strider and Strapps, both of which may be worthy of investigation albeit being somewhat on the earthy and bluesy side (something which is the case with many a nwobhm-tagged band too).

Partially agreed, the magnum opus "The tower" definitely fits the bill. Not so sure about the rest of the tracks though.
