I was bidding on Megaforce version of Kill 'em All few days ago. The seller then removed the auction so unfortunately you can't see it anymore, but perhaps I could contact the seller for the pictures ...

There may be a re-issue on Megaforce, but certainly not from 1983.

My uncle had a copy of this that he bought in college in the mid-80s. It may not be from 1983 but it is a very early pressing (probably as early as the RR copy). Though it is pretty common, perhaps there were multiple pressings throughout the 80s.

My guess is it's from around 1987, the same time Megaforce released the first Overkill album on CD as well.
Fact be known, the very first CD pressing of "Kill 'Em All" is the Roadrunner Slimline pressing from 1985.
End of story.

What reason have I to lie? Besides the Overkill CD clearly says 1987 on it, there is no such mention on the Metallica.

Let's put it this way.
When I see it, I'll believe it.
Not to mention, a lot of CD's only state the original year of release. Not the actual year of re-issue.

Megaforce Records was formed in 1982.
I doubt that a small independent label would start producing costly CD's the very next year of it's existence.
Megaforce was also the first label and home of Overkill in 1985/1986 and "Feel The Fire" was released in 1985. Why was this album not released on CD format by Megaforce on it's initial release but "Kill 'Em All" was even earlier?
Like I said, it doesn't make sense...
I still think this CD is from 86 or 87.

One thing I don't understand, the Roadrunner slimlines were Japanese pressed correct? Then why is this Kill 'Em All German pressed? The disc's appearance is identical to the Slayer etc. German jewel case versions that came later, while the Metallica jewel case version has the off-center brick Roadrunner logo common on regular RR CDs in the late 80s.. So perhaps these aren't as early as you thought either. In any case something doesn't add up.

I've heard the same thing.
Maybe contacting Roadrunner would prove useful, although, I don't know if anyone from tha labels early days is still around...
