Yep, I like it too. Listened to it the just other day in fact. I on the other hand woould be surprised if more people didn't like it. OK, it's primitive and crude, but also quite charming and it has some good memorable songs on it.

For ageoholics like me, the main difficulty w/ making a list like this is how do I compare the albums I grew up with, with the one's I've discovered in the last 10 years? I just can't, so here's 10 childhood faves v/s 10 newbees:
My 80's US Metal Education:
1. MANOWAR - Sign Of The Hammer
2. AGENT STEEL - Sceptics Apocalypse
3. WASP - s/t (aka "Winged Assassins", and yes - this album in METAL to the bone!)
4. ANVIL - Forged In Fire
5. OMEN - Battle Cry
6. METAL CHURCH - s/t
7. MANILLA ROAD - The Deluge
8. SOLITUDE AETURNUS - Justice For All (since Rob/doomedplanet re-released this it has to count as an album.)
9. More MANOWAR!
10. AGENT STEEL again, i.e. Unstopable Force
My late 90's+onward US Metal re-Education:
1. BROCAS HELM - Into Battle
2. RIPPER - And The Dead Shall Rise
3. MESSIAH - Final Warning
4. INNER SANCTUM - 12 AM
5. GLACIER - s/t
6. BLACK VIRGIN - Most Likely To Exceed
7. SIREN - No Place Like Home
8. SAVAGE GRACE - The Fall From Grace
9. BLACK DEATH - s/t
10. COVEN - Worship New Gods
...and then there's all the Hard Rock faves like CRYSYS, MISTREATER, TWISTED SISTER, LEGEND, PLASMATICS, DWARR etc... and all the Thrash! Don't get me started..

In order, as of now:
#1- Overkill- the years of decay
Riot- Thundersteel
Fates Warning- parallels
Savatage- streets
Iced Earth- burnt offerings
#6- Saint Vitus- die healing
Fates Warning- awaken the guardian
Manilla Road- crystal logic
Crowhaven- emotional adjustment (maybe a bit high)
Anacrusis- screams and whispers
#11- Manowar- sign of the hammer
Heathen- victims of deception
Solitude Aeturnus- into the depths of sorrow
Aldo Nova- blood on the bricks (glam is a KIND of metal

)
Babylon AD- s/t
#16- Jag Panzer- ample destruction (might should be higher)
Impeccable- live on the rox (not realy metal but oh well)
v/a Metal Massacre vol 4

Hmmm, apparently there are only 18 US metal/near-metal albums in my Top 50 albums list. Oh well, close enough

I see most of you have tried to keep the list one release per band. I won't!
My, not at all original, list of all time faves (stuff that I tend to go back to all the time):
Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
Fates Warning - The Spectre Within
Fates Warning - No Exit
Fates Warning - Perfect Symmetry (still metal enough?)
Manilla Road - The Deluge
Manilla Road - Crystal Logic
Manilla Road - Open the Gates
Manilla Road - Mystification (I couldn't fit in the first two or MotB as Heavy Metal proper, otherwise they would have been here)
Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead
Attacker - Battle at Helm's Deep
Omen - Battlecry
Savage Grace - Master of Disquise
Brocas Helm - S/T
Brocas Helm - Black Death
Black Death - S/T
Griffin - Flight of the Griffin
Slauter Xtroyes - Winterkill
Culprit - Guilty as Charged
Manowar - Hail to England
Warlord - Deliver Us

Nice to see TYRANT in so many lists. "Thundersteel" also seems to be loved by many, certainly not a bad thing.
Cheers to MassOfKthulu for including ATTIKA's MEGAMASTERPIECE "When heroes fall" in his top-list, an ass-kicking aggressive POWER METAL album, soundwise close to early JAG PANZER!
I haven't included WASP in my list 'cause i think more ''power'' and less ''traditional heavy'' when i personally refer to the US metal term. Otherwise, "Crimson idol" and "Headless children" are among my favourites for sure.

These are some of my favorites, but no definitive top-list:
Manilla Road - Crystal Logic
Cirith Ungol - Frost and Fire
Brocas Helm - Defender of the Crown
Salem's Wych - Betrayer of Kings
Manowar - Into Glory Ride
Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
Siren - No Place like Home
Riot - Thundersteel
Lordian Guard - Sinners in the hands of an angry god
Ion Britton - Eat Metal
Metal Church - Metal Church
Crimson Glory - Transcendence
Warlord - ...And the Cannons of Destruction Have Begun
Destiny's End - Breathe Deep the Dark
Wardog - A Sound Beating

Wardog... I was considering Tension - Breaking Point for a second for my list but in the end, eh.
I checked out the Culprit - Guilty as Charged record from the many mentions in this thread and it seems it had been a glorious omission in my US Metal education. Thanks, this thread! I think I should check out Attika as well.

What about the self titled PENTAGRAM LP? Maybe more like 70's HR, but it was recorded and released in the 80's and the sound is...timeless(?!!).

If Doom is allowed I would put the Saint Vitus LP. Also would put the Metal Church LP, Fistful Of Metal, the Black Death LP and Worship New Gods (these last two discovered thanks to The Corroseum!)

I put Wardog and Destiny's End in because I think they are both good albums and very fun to listen to, even though I don't consider them immortal classics. And I really would have wanted to add stuff like Watchtower - C&R, and Psychotic Waltz - Into the Everflow to my list, but I guess they don't quite fit the genre.

You have really good taste (though on PW I always go with 'A Social Grace'). Yeah "US metal" for me means 'US power metal' not progressive or doom, I guess a lot of these lists reflect that.

Yes, that's what I thought. So, Medieval can be considered US Metal or not?
