I was thinking more the early albums. Headless Children and Crimson Idol are far from anything glammy but in my opinion there's a slight "hair metal" feel in stuff like I Wanna Be Somebody , Animal (Fuck Like A Beast), Wild Child, L.O.V.E. Machine. Still great though. And I don't think they're on same line with bands such as Mötley Crüe or Poison

On the other hand the albums you mentioned contain "Hellion", "The torture never stops", "On your knees", "Tormentor", "Widowmaker", "The last command". Isn't it a bit unfair to put a strict "Hair Metal" tag on them?

WASP are way to heavy for such tag. Too bestial for the bands mentioned here.

Well yeah you're right, I wouldn't put a strict hair metal tag on them. However I feel they have several "hairish" (what a word) moments on their first albums. Kinda like Loudness - Hurricane Eyes has songs like S.D.I., Strike Of The Sword, In This World Beyond and also songs like This Lonely Heart, Rock'N Roll Gypsy and In My Dreams. And it happens that the WASP songs I mentioned are the ones I first heard (over the radio or something) and when someone mentions the band they are the ones I also think of first. Even though they do have better ones.

Besides I like to think glam "metal" as bands like Crüe, Poison, Ratt etc. and hair metal as real heavy metal with slightly melodic and commercial touches.

Early WASP kinda straddles the glam-metal boundary same as Guns n Roses and early LA Guns (good call on that one too).

Re: Diving for Pearls, the phrase DfP is slang for a gay man giving head to another guy, hence my original comment. I don't know the Elvis Costello connection.

Sure it is, but the thread is about glam/hair and hard rock, isn't it? Anyway, it's a great album with numerous bluesy/southern influences that fit damn well with the rest of the material + a great voice.

Yep, a shame it came out just as grunge was taking over everything and thus got completely overlooked by most folks. I used to sit outside during lunch in high school and play this tape on a small boom box. This one gorgeous chick in my class loved the album too

Heh, I actually own that Kick Axe album pictured above. Dreamin' About You is a good song to make love to, I guess.

Since a few of you mentioned War Babies, is there any love for Brad Sinsel's previous band, TKO?
Their "In Your Face" is a great little album, and way heavier than the cover would lead you to suspect.

TKO was an alright band.

I've nevr heard the Let It Roll album from '79 but I own both In Your Face and Below The Belt albums.

Decent stuff.

KICK AXE to me were never a hair band/glam, just solid hard rock!

I loved (& still do) LOVE/HATE-Blackout In The Red Room!!!!!!

I also really like PRETTY BOY FLOYD (most of those Jap bands everyone loves have the same kinda image, right!!!!!??)

"In your face" is a very good album. "Danger city" must be a top-20 track of the genre for me!

Yeah, "Danger City" is a very cool song, "End Of The Line" rules too, and would be in my top 20 genre pick i think.
Someone else mentioned their "Let It Roll" debut LP from '79, this is a much more light weight affair, with only Sinsel's vocals linking the two eras of the band. I kinda like the album, but don't expect it to sound like the latter pair.
