Too much Wallop and Tyrant has its consequences. Be careful, Vag. :D
Hehe i don't regret it
If it wasn't that live album i wouldn't liked Scorpions at all.But the guitars and the sound are strangely Heavy for such a mainstream band and for Scorpions too.I like the live atmosphere too of this album.

Amen! I have never been great fan of live albums but I just can't get enought of Tokyo Tapes! There is just something in the atmosphere of it, audience+band. Something strange Japanese thing? I just get this feeling that people are really listening to the music?

I must say their balladry have turned me 180 degree off their music. But I' ve heard their 70's stuff is killer. So I'll have to check them out one day. *goes on the list* *groan*

I wonder how were bands like Faithful Breath influenced by them if they were. They were contemporaries, right? Debut of both groups came out in 1973 if my records are set properly.

Great band. One of my favourites. So many great songs.

Tokyo Tapes, Lovedrive, Aninal Magnetism, Love at First Sting. All great albums.

I felt they lost the plot with "Eye to Eye" in 1999 but they have certainly put it back on track with the last two: Unbreakable and Humanity Hour 1.

It was a real pleasure to see them live last July.

I applaud to you appreciating World Wide Live as this was my very first record and I value it very very high! besides that, not likeing "anything else" doesn't make too much sense as all the killer tunes from Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout and Love at First Sting are on that one, and if you like those, you need to check the studio albums! Plus you would miss the complete Uli Jon Roth era which I would consider high treason for any German Metal enthusiast  .
I wrote something about eras and albums in the other thread and don't want to repeat everything - an aspect I'd like to add is, that in Germany they seem not to be as high regarded as anywhere else.. maybe I don't have the global perspective to judge, but here, Scorpions have since the 80s (from where I can tell..) been surrounded by some kind of.. cheesiness - admitting you are a Scorpions fan is somehow.. a little bit embarassing  . I have the impression that internationally, that might differ a bit.

all the "uncensored" covers can be viewed at their (official? says so..) website www.the-scorpions.com - strangely enough, even the original Virgin Killer sleeve is there..

Yeah I really like Humanity too. I skipped Unbreakable because Eye to Eye was so bad, but now that I know better I need to pick it up. I saw them last fall and they were fantastic. Went with my wife and she enjoyed it too but she said she was surprised at just how metal the show was. They definitely are heavier live, even today.

Here are my favorite songs by album:
Lonesome Crow: "I'm Goin' Mad"
Fly to the Rainbow: "Fly to the Rainbow"
In Trance: "Longing for Fire"
Virgin Killer: "Pictured Life"
Taken By Force: "We'll Burn the Sky"
Tokyo Tapes: "We'll Burn the Sky" (again, because it's that good)
Lovedrive: "Can't Get Enough"
Animal Magnetism: "The Zoo" (tough call between this and "Make It Real")
Blackout: "No One Like You" (I know, I picked the "hit" song, so what?)
Love at First Sting: "Coming Home"
Savage Amusement: "Don't Stop at the Top"
(skipping a few because I haven't listened to them in a while)
Humanity: "We Will Rise Again"

Yeah, I noticed that when I was in Europe a couple of years ago - and not just in Germany. In Australia for example, Scorpions were never really a big mainstream band (except for Winds of change) and have never toured here, so there isn't the same 'cringe' factor that many metalheads have regarding more commercial bands. We never had their '80s songs shoved down our throats to the extent that European kids did, so we didn't have that natural aversion to overcome.

You'd be amazed the number of members of well-regarded Aussie underground bands who love the Scorps...

one thing that is indeed annoying is the big deal everyone makes here about how that one made the iron curtain come down, which is absolutely ridiculous. this song is a pain in the ass - and I love the other ballads as Still Loving You or Holiday, but those have at least some heavy guitars in them instead of stupid whistling..
Keir wrote:I skipped Unbreakable because Eye to Eye was so bad, but now that I know better I need to pick it up.
they indeed hit the bottom with Eye to Eye, but Unbreakable rocked again! Although Humanity is slightly better. Even Pure Instinct has its moments, and Face the Heat was quite good imo

I don't really know if SCORPIONS had some influences on ACCEPT, after the massive commercial success of "Love at first Sting", ACCEPT came out with "Metal Heart". This album is great but ACCEPT-sound is more polished, some songs were more soft than before and sounded like a heavier-SCORPIONS : "Midnight Mover", "Screaming for a Love Bite", ...

I think the first Accept album is total 70s Scorpions worship. After that they moved toward their own sound.
