I'm not denying that. I'm just saying that what a lot of fans of SIGH claim is "innovative" in their music is not so new to fans of dark/horror music.

Shub Niggurath are clones of, and Present an off-shoot band of Univers Zero, which you should check out if you're interested in that sort of music. However I see absolutely no connection between avant/RIO prog and what Sigh did. Perhaps there's some Krautrock in there somewhere, but I think Sigh mainly played black metal with a hefty classical music infuence, not a 'classical rock music' influence as it were.

I know UNIVERS ZERO, their album "Heresie" is pretty dank, too... However, I think SHUB NIGGURATH (and especially TREMBLING STRAIN) really went beyond what UNIVERS ZERO did in terms of dark creepiness. This is evident especially on the "Live Tape" '89, which I think goes even beyond "Les Mortes Vont Vites"...

We'll have to agree to disagree about SIGH. Their early work is totally metal, but on albums like "Imaginary Sonicscape" and even "Hail Horror Hail" they sound like parts are not only cropped from Italian horror prog bands and Kraut bands (sure), but RIO/zeuhl horror bands too. At least to me, and they haved mentioned bands like ART ZOYD and UNIVERS ZERO in interviews.

You're right about the classical music influence, I guess. I remember hearing something in a song that reminded me of Bela Bartok... but if they are playing some Bartok-ish, they may as well just rip off UNIVERS ZERO wholesale, because all those bands regurgitated that strain of classical music readily.

Well if they've mentioned Art Zoyd and Univers Zero at interviews of that time (not later) then you'd be correct and we don't have to agree to disagree, I'll readily agree with you.

Personally, i never got into that experimental/avant-garde/post-black metal thing which sounded rather incoherent, not metal and at times uninspired to my ears. I always prefered the bands' early pure black metal works. And Sigh is no exception to that.

Ion, I suggest giving a listen to Fleurety's 'Min Tid Skal Komme' in any case!

I've heard Ved Buens Ende before, it was a strange album, i recognise some quality/uniqueness in it but unfortunately it was not my cup of tea.

Fleurety i've never heard before. I'll give it a try soon.
