Proof?
later death CDs are on Nimbus, not on Discovery Systems.
Oh, and theres the small detail that Discovery Systems closed it's doors in 1988.

This is possible. I assumed it is a pressing run number.

could be cause they sucked at pressing CDs! Half of them don't even play anymore...

That doesn't mean anything. Nimbus was pressing CD's as early as 1986. How do you tell the difference?

What equipment are you using to play your discs?

I have seen this same "problem" mentioned before but I have not had this issue. I agree the quality is a lot lower then many manufacturers but claiming the discs aren't playable is an over exaggeration from my experience.

Fact: DS press cannot be later than 1988
Fact: There are Nimbus presses later than DS: there are many variants of the Nimbus press: some have "side a" "side b" listed on the backcover, some (later) have regular tracklist. these "later" ones have to be later than DS press which still has "side a" "side b".
Fact: Leprosy in 1988 is pressed By Nimbus, 1990 Spiritual Healing too

I think that the only logical conclusion from known facts is the one I gave you earlier. Theoretically many scenarios are possible and you can believe what you want, but whether they make sense and are probable is another matter.

You know, actually Nimbus started pressing CDs as early as 1984 in their plant in Wales. I challenge you to prove that the japaneese versions of Combat CDs (Bonded by Blood, Killing Is ..., Darkness Descends) are earlier than the Nimbus ones. If I adopted your thinking, I'd be arguing that we cannot tell which ones came first.

I have a Discovery Systems CD from 1990 (Harsh Reality - Grimm Facts), if the plant closed in 1988, how is this possible?

"Discovery Systems, Inc., a company that had been founded by Jeffrey M. Wilkins in 1985 in Dublin, Ohio. Discovery Systems, Inc. used a manufacturing process that had been developed by U.S. Philips Corp. and DiscoVision Associates. By 1989, the Discovery Systems, Inc. ceased to exist and became Metatec, Inc."

this is what I found. Could you post a scan or a photo of the centre circle? maybe it says made my Metatec/Discovery Systems ?

Edit. Never mind - I found examples of non metal after 1988 CDs with DS matrices. This is something I was unaware of and I don't know what to make of it.

Matrix says: "MADE BY DISCOVERY SYSTEMS - AN AMERICAN COMPANY A15N0200B"
It mentions nothing about Metatec. If you still want a photo I'll try to produce one...

Still think that DS are first but it is more difficult to prove now. By the way I found out (haven't seen it) that the first press of Leprosy on Combat has "made in Japan by JVC" on the matrix. If this is true this would add to the combat Japan list.

about 6 different CD-players at work, 4 at home (computer, stereo, discman)

of course some still work (mostly Metal). Most CCM & Christian AOR is a different story though.

I had to buy Harsh Reality twice, the first CD when I played it in a stereo it was stuttering and sounded all static-y, and when I tried to play it in my a PC using Foobar2000 it wouldn't stop seeking, EAC would blue-screen my PCs if I tried to rip it. The second copy works for now, but it will probably go down the same road soon.

I totally agree that Discovery Systems in general sucked at making CDs. The silver top side ones are even worse as they are VERY prone to rot. The colored ones are a bit better, but still crap.

First press of Dead Brain Cells / Universe is also a JVC Japanese press.

Are there two Combat pressings of this one then ?

Yes. The version I used to have said "made in USA" on the disc print but the matrix was definitely JVC Japan (had all those weird symbols like the old FEMS CDs of that time). All the print on the disc / inserts is identical to the other version (Nimbus I believe? Don't remember) only matrix is different. Could actually be a second pressing, who knows?
