Here was another chance to get one of the singles listed in the grubadub batch a few weeks ago; that auction is even linked within the description of this copy. End result was very different

This one may be a little more worn, but both copies had noticeable wear. One sold for $70, one for $10.

Methinks there's a valuable lesson herein regarding pricing records based on a single auction

No, I'm not saying it will never sell that high again. My point is that prices can fluctuate widely, but people tend to assume that the higher price is the 'correct' one b/c those auctions and sales make a big impression on us. A record sells for a lot on ebay, and in many cases you start seeing more copies turn up b/c the owner thinks, "hey, i want that much for my copy too!". The high-dollar auctions get archived in places like popsike and this very thread, but folks don't often report, record, or remember the low-dollar auctions. This can skew the amount that people think the item is worth.

If 10 Limozines sell for $70 each and one sells for $10, then $70 is the 'correct' price and the $10 buyer just got lucky. But if 10 Limozines sell for $70, $70, and the other eight for $10 each, some people will only notice the two $70 copies and thus they will think that $70 is the 'correct' price.

The seller of the $10 Limozine clearly thought that the record should bring ~$70 since he had seen that $70 auction. He wanted others to also think the record was worth $70, as he included a link to the $70 auction in his listing as proof of that value. But this $10 copy won't be archived on popsike and it never showed up on Collectors Weekly, so a future seller or buyer isn't likely to know about this sale. Instead, he/she is likely to keep using the $70 sale as a reference point for the record's value.

The 'message' I referred to in my orig. post is just that buyers (and sellers) should be careful about assuming a record is worth $X just b/c they saw one copy sell for $X. I guess it comes down to an issue of sample size: what does one auction tell us? This is exactly why I ask long-time collectors and dealers for their opinions regarding rarity and value; popsike + my own experiences often don't yield enough copies to get a good grasp on what a 'reasonable' price is for the record in question. Folks that have dealt with more records than me have a larger data set, which helps identify which record consistently sells for $70, and which record only brings $70 in rare instances.

Not sure, I haven't looked. Even if none of the grub- or zero st- batches are listed on Popsike, they were up on Collectors Weekly and they were discussed on collector forums like this one.
If a Corroseum member has a copy of Strike Force for sale next week, what are the odds they'd be willing to accept the ~$50 that the single had sold for on ebay 12-18 months ago? Or will they keep thinking about that one copy that brought over $700 and want the same for their copy? Given that everyone hereabouts agreed that many of those auction prices were nuttier than a football bat, there is apparently no logical reason for the value to have shot up from $50-$700, but I doubt anyone aware of the $700 sale is gonna take $50, $100, or even $300 for a copy in the near future.

Most of the copies available should be like that,I saw one from another seller and they he told me it was warped as well....
