The "Satan's Embryo" album has now officially been re-released on CD. You can find it very cheap on Ebay. The strange thing is that everyone in Russia said that this record was never released on vinyl (it was unreleased I think), but on the obi from the CD re-release it says that it was originally released on vinyl... So I have no idea.
if you by NECROCANNIBAL mean the gore/death band, then yes there exsists some kind of re-release or bootleg on CD at least, not good though.

They released a demo before that one called "Devil's Sabbath" which is completely GREAT !! Raging Speed Black. There is a boot-CD
The Devil's Sabbat CD is not boot, it looks cheap, but is official JetNoise release.

Metalipeiklo wrote: In MAGNIT and CREDO there are certain nationalistic themes to be found and an interesting thing is the cover of MAGNIT "Dies Irae" showing a picture of Stalin counting skulls.
Oh yeah, I have been thinking about that MAGNIT cover. Maybe they have some criticism in between the lines... But if I remember right from my school years Stalin was not a "holy cow" of CCCP, he's body was removed from Lenins mausoleum etc so maybe little bit criticism was accepted?

I think also that as heavy metal is not about politics basicly it was accepted as a form of youth culture or something like that. Western records were smuggled to CCCP so why not to let people make their own music, record it and play gigs?
But I suppose it has been a whole different story in ex-soviet states which are now independent?

And yes, all this is just speculation as I was not living my youth in CCCP...

Metalipeiklo wrote:Hmm, here's one pretty fucking obscure band from Russia: APOKALYPSIS with their album "Den' Gneva" (yes, MAGNIT also used that title, among others)! Check this stuff out, it's definitely worth a listen. The whole album is downloadable from the site:
http://www.realmusic.ru/apokalypsis/
After Chorniy Kuznets' shock, i began browsing this thread again and found this band which is absolutely awesome. Fuck Varvar, this stuff is 100 times more brooding and darker. And also features a better and more expressive vocalist. Thanks a lot, Metalipeiklo!

Does anyone know of a reliable distro, Russian or otherwise, that carries that DIV CD?

You can download like 5 albums from here: http://apocalypsis.narod.ru/

But in my opinion APOCALYPSIS is very average and boring one-man bedroom project, nothing to compare to VARVAR really

If you crave decent Russian Orthodox metal - check NEFELIM

Thanks for the link!

I have already stated my opinion on Varvar on another thread, Apokalypsis easily blows to smithereens their LP which is quite overpraised and nothing really special imo. To each his own i guess, once again.

Just to make it clear I'm not very fond of VARVAR either, but this Apocalypsis is nothing but a bedroom demo someone churned on a boring evening lifting off lyrics from the bible and I cannot take it seriously, in my opinion of course.

Well, for me it works quite well even as a bedroom demo. I don't know which album you've heard, maybe the next ones aren't that good indeed. As soon as i listen to them i will come back with a more ripe opinion on Apokalypsis as a whole.

I just listened to a random songs here and there from the earlier albums. Den Gneva (the one you originally posted link to at realmusic) is their latest one from 2007

on a historical note,

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =162118467
In 1985, the Soviet Ministry of Culture officially recognized Heavy Metal, the most popular kind of music at that time in Russia, declaring it equal to all the other musical forms.
I find this an amazing bit of trivia.

So if you have a band like Kruiz that put out a few amazing HM cds and then turned to AOR you have to keep in mind that they were actually trying to make a living playing the most popular type of music at that time in the USSR (!) and when HM died they switched to other themes to put bread on the table.

That's called: selling out.
