On the cd that I have the Disaster logo is at the same height as the number of the matrix 10008..so it should be a beautiful boot...right?
The paper has a strange smell anyway

no, it seems important where the matrix code is placed on the inner ring, just the font and maybe how near the matrix is to the actual data area.

there are several hints that might tell you about the past of a CD

Of course these are not 100% accurate. But in the end its all a matter of calculating the propability.

Surely not only photos of the cd/matrix/whatever, I also ask some questions. But the 'smell' proof is not one of those

if the photo quality of the CD is good enough and you have an original to compare, you can spot many bootlegs just by their cover art (placement of elements, distance of some elements from the edges, different colour shade...)
