Can't see it being bad taste

Never really listened to them that much, what I've heard I was neutral about, though I always enjoyed the guitar work.

That's been a big problem for me with their last two albums, but not the early ones. Just look at the cover of Ape Uprising, you can tell they want to be comedians now.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that, I like the earlier stuff more too. Though I think in light of this newer stuff I'll find it harder going back to the older records. 'Traveller' is actually the only one I have on vinyl, the others are on CD. I never get them out anymore, I played traveller about two months ago or slightly less and then had 'Atavism' on last week and was reminded of why I don't play them.

I think Scalzi's lyrics (voice, geetars) are amazingly good personally. There's quite a bit of comedy in there and there has been in the past too...'Travellers' is based on a 70s board game about dog.men gene splicing afterall, and "we are the redmen, feathers in our headmen, down amongst the deadmen, oom pow wow" is not supposed to be Virgil. But they deliver it with real gusto and not a hint of irony...so as long as they stay sincere and straight-faced I'm in. I wasn't happy about the softening-up/straightening-out at first but now 'Hardworlder's an all-time favourite.

I think Motorhead have been consistently good for their whole career, naturally a bit samey. Some of the songs off of their early 90s stuff (excluding 'Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me) hold up to 'Overkill' and the like to me. Does it matter if Motorhead or Iron Maiden have their t-shirts strewn about the four corners? I don't think he's god but I did enjoy his cameo in Airheads. "I use to write the school newspaper!"

Gotta agree totally with Zernebohon this one, though I might understand that Scalzi's voice might not be everybody's taste, as it is so unique and special. ut I think he's definitely an excellent singer, I worship the guy's interpretation of music. SLOUGH FEG is indeed a very open band, even though it's often tagged as "traditionnal". I think it simply feeds on the roots and goes a step further from what's been done in the past. I really like this abdn a lot and yeah "hardworlder" has got to be my fave album.

To stick with the subject, Id say that I really can't stand bands like CONFESSOR and WHILE HEAVEN WEPT. THe first one I don't like 'cos the voice really gets on my nerves. The later one is simply sounding too clean and nice for my ears. I recognize that both have talent and play something unique, but I really can't stand them... A matter of taste, as simple as it is.

I could never understand the appeal behind Confessor, some good riffs but those vocals kill me. Parasite, great avatar, one of my favorite, if not favorite mlp's.

Slough Feg has been one of my coming-of-age faves ever since I first heard them in 1999. Can't say that I dislike any of their stuff really. Scalzi's voice may not be all easy listening and sometimes you may have wished there was a different vocal tone/character but for most times I find him really great - and sounding even better in the Hammers of Misfortune context probably. I have no problems with their (SF's

) humourus or happy-ish tendencies, we can't have all gloom and doom, fallen warriors, pride and honour, muscles tensed and about to burst, or unintentional humour for that matter.

I remember hearing them back in the late eighties/early nineties and sort of trying to like them as they had something unique about them (expecially in those days) but that voice was so damn irritating. Should I give them another chance?

As for hating bands - not my thing I guess. Do what thou wilt and all that crap...

Which Blitzkrieg? If it's the NWOBHM band Blitzkrieg you're talking about it's the other way around, the song was written in 1977/78.

"Traveller" was a really famous roleplaying game, of which I know enough to earn the title "geek". The "Wolfen" are there a race taking over the galaxy, though this changed with differing editions of the game.

I never did mind the humour in Slough Feg and the softening down was not really a problem for me either. It made them sound more "70s", but to me that's not a bad thing.

i actually ment that Blitzkrieg borrowed it but i put it in a rather fucked up way. My bad. Actually you can find the excact riff in "Armageddon"

I should clarify: I just meant the humor bothers me, not the vocals. I've always liked Scalzi's voice.

Slough Feg have always had a sense of humor, but on the first four albums it seemed like they were being weird in a more serious way, if that makes sense. Now it seems like they're saying "Hey, get a load of how goofy we are!" It also seems like they're not putting much effort into the music, either.
