It's a quite rare live bootleg, Markus (Iron Force Rec.) is selling it for 80€.
I like the coverart with that "lumbering-leopard-pad".
Actually it is not a live bootleg. As soon as they started being famous, belgium based Flash records released their early demos as "First Strike" LP.
Okay, thanks for correcting me.
For some reason I thought it could have been a live bootleg.

No it's not, by any fucking stretch of the imagination, it has some amazing tracks, evocative riffs and lyrics and from a metal point of view that isn't even up for debate, it's simply akin to saying Black Sabbath never wrote a good song so shut the fuck up. Damascus and Paralex, well they are mediocre if anything is, boring "rocking" crap overrated because of their rarity.

Turn the lights off, play "Badon Hill" loud and soak in the atmosphere and lyrics... saying that is crap is as stupid as saying Adrian Smith couldn't write good solos.

Y'know daniel, not everyone blindly praises every rare record. You frequently make that accusation, but different people just like different things; it's not always about hyping anything limited to less than 1,000 copies.

You think Voltz is better than Damascus and Patralex; well Voltz is rarer than Damascus and Paralex, so are you just hyping Voltz b/c it's really rare? :) Of course not.

IMO Voltz is AWFUL; I HATE that record. Damascus and Paralex, IMO, are pretty good. Does praising the two more common records and disliking the rare one make me a more tr00 metal fan than you? Of course not.

You like Voltz, and I don't. I like Damascus and Paralex, and you don't. They're just opinions, not insights into whether we're trendy hipsters or manic collectors or tr00 Heroes of the Underground or anything else.

Sorry to get on your case, but it irks me when people start acting like their opinion is an absolute fact carved in stone and everyone who disagrees with them is a poser, moron, or doesn't have a clue. The mindset of "I say this album rules, and if you disagree then fuck you, you're stupid"- is lame.

Of course I go over the top, but some things in life are objectively good or bad, everything can't be just opinions; I don't believe in it. Voltz in an adventurous records musically it's not as formulaic as either of the others.

I'm with you Alan

I don't like that Voltz record.
Never have.

To me it's one of those records that folks want just for the cover. And even that ain't great.

haunting and athmospheric 70ies rock with some proggy parts. well written and pretty original for a rarity like that. somebody please explain what's so terrible and not at least okay or not my stuff? i'm pretty stunned at how many shit this record gets!

id like to think voltz is like a talented lester maddox (nothing against maddox though, i love gothic lore)

daniel- it can be fun to debate and even argue about albums, movies, and books; that's basically why the Internet was invented :) But musical tastes cannot be Right or Wrong; album reviews/posts are subjective opinions, so no matter how ass-kickingly awesome you think an album is, there's always gonna be someone who disagrees with you, and their is no 'right' answer.

Even if you can make an objective case that Voltz is more "musically adventurous" than Damascus or Paralex that STILL doesn't make it 'better' than them. Is Yngwie's 'Concerto Suite for Piano & Electric Guitar' better than AC/DC's 'Back in Black' or Venom's 'Welcome to Hell'?
Answer: it depends on who you ask :)

Knell- sorry, but I hear nothing haunting, atmospheric, or proggy about Voltz. It always struck me as simple, boring, 70s rock that wasn't well-played and just got lumped into the NWOBHM along with Tractor, Nuthin' Fancy, and other bands that were not really 'metal'. But again, that's just my opinion. If you dig the album that's cool- enjoy it and don't let it bum you out if others don't like it.
