I agree with Daniel on this matter.
Why do they release material (even if there are only 20 or 50 copies pressed) if they don't want their music to be heard or spread ? Acting the way they're doing, their only aim is to create some kind of internet buzz around TOM's name. And, sadly, it works ! I don't know for other forums, but here at the Corroseum, this is at least the third thread about them. Beside PORTRAIT, I don't remember that any "new" band that have been discussed more than them here.
If they had wanted their music to remain secret and unheard, they would have just play and rehearse in their parent's basement.
This attitude is so childish ! To me, they're just a bunch a posers who want to be some kind of "trve kings of vnderground".

Because of the way they do it I guess. Because they do create a professional factory-made product, in very limited quantities, which is then given to distros with permission to be sold. Which essentially creates huge demand and is not really inspiring for tape trading. Honestly, if you are a collector what would you prefer, a dubbed copy, or the real thing?Sgt. Kuntz wrote:But why are people so offended/angry when they can't get hold of their records/tapes? The music of TOM is their own property, right? Well, then they can print or sell or give away for free as much as they want, even if someone thinks that this may be odd or weird...
This goes outside of the music. It is all about the product. I know tons of people hunting for those tapes, and they do not even own a working tape decks anymore... it's all about the collector's hype and TOM have turned themselves from band into collector's item, as simple as that. In my opinion anyway.

The sad part is that this is a BAND and we aren't actually talking about the music of said band but rather the actions of it's members. At the end of the day this is the exact same tactic used by mainstream artists. It's exactly the same thing that big time, popular celebrities do when they publicize some of the ridiculous personal lives that they live in the name of fame and attention. "Cult" my ass... I'd rather be known for my musical talents then for my douche-bag tactics.

No hype gimmick is cheaper or more effective than going pure kvlt underground
If they had made 500 copies of the tape they would have been selling them for years and generating a small fan base. With 5-6 (or whatever ridiculous # they released) they'll be able to sell out their initial album pressing with no trouble at all as people clamor to finally hear what makes them so Kvlter Than Kvlt
HYPE! Yawn

I don't think the deal is really that big as long as we're talking about demo tapes and bloody rehearsal recordings that most other bands don't give out to anybody. How many original rehearsal recordings on pro printed tape do you got by any band? Myself, I have none.
Let's wait and see how many copies they press of the next proper album. The last one was 100 copies. That sounds ridiculously little, but it probably seemed like more than enough back then in 2006 or 2007. I didn't even know the name Tales of Medusa when the album was released, it's safe to say their name is a lot more well known today.

I had 5-6 extra copies of the LP and all were gone within 15 minutes of making them available. A month or so later a copy surfaced on eGay and sold for something like $917 if I'm not mistaken... it was won by Andi who is known to pay crazy money for stuff he wants, but still how many releases are known to clock such prices just months after the release date...

Tales of Medusa are very good, but I don't think they are as great as most people say to be very honest. What I have heard by them isn't 100% excellent, as some songs clearly eclipse others and some of their riffs seem slightly out of place, etc.
However, I still think the band hasn't released their magnum opus yet, which will undoubtedly be limited to 1 copy, and the only way you can obtain it is by receiving a secret letter of invitation by the band to a tournament on a small island where you must all fight to the death for it.
Joking aside, very good band, and in all reality, the music is their product and it's how they want to do things. I don't think they owe anyone anything, and we don't owe them anything either. That all being said, the band should just not remain ignorant enough to think that their music will not appear on the internet despite their efforts. It most obviously and certainly will, because how do people know about them in the first place? The web...

I thought Andi bought it for 225€ or something like that. 917$ seems to be too outragous for me.stormspell wrote:I had 5-6 extra copies of the LP and all were gone within 15 minutes of making them available. Well, the new 7" is out.
People started e-mailing me already, so I want to make it clear:
Dear friends, I do not have spare copies this time, so please do not e-mail me. I cannot help you out, sorry.
