HM by accident?

Post by DaN »

Unique, Epic proto/quasi-Metal songs/recordings from 1978-198early...
Quirky, obscure & mysterious stûffs like BIKES' "Just A Glimpse", THE PLADS - Domine Deus, the WAGABOND, AGONY BAG and NOTRE-DAME ESTELLE DORVÉS 7"s, various East-Euro oddities - fekk, it doesn't even have to stem from Metal at all, just these cool & unique songs that have turned up on off-topic albums/comps/demos/EPs and by sheer accident happens to tangent the music we live & die for...

Thread topic = Just namedrop a song.

I'm sure that if you dig deep enough you can come up with great, local candidates for an amazing Official Corroseum Compilation CDR on the subject...

Early Turbo / Titanic? I have to spin those demo recordings again but I think some were pretty heavy for its time.

I know exactly what you mean, I come across this all the time, mostly on mixed genre comps. Though I haven't heard WAGABOND, all the others are great examples.

I'll just copy a few of my descriptions from the encyclopedia:

This is one of my favorites, and probably has more to do with their not being as many rules about metal back in 1980 than any "accident".
WHITENOISE - Soul Of The Spider
An improvement over their track on Volume 3, the music is great epic hard rock but with unfortunately poppy vocals. That's not to say they are bad, they just don't fit the music.
THE BAGAZOID BROTHERS - She Glows In The Dark
Not sure what to make of this one. The singer sounds like WEIRD AL, and there are funny lyrics to match, but those riffs and solos are unmistakably metal.
Another from the same comp as BIKES:
SPENARD - Beware Of Young Girls
Interesting alternative rock, and kind of hard except for the bongos.

Local punk band THIRD RAIL had an accidental metal hit with their song "Rondey Rush" (they almost sound like a primitive MAX PLANCK on this song).

Also, about half of THE KINGDOM's LP would probably qualify.
