Assault (Canada) - Slow Painful Death Demo

Post by AxeCrazy »

I saw someone mention Assault's "Survival In The Street" album in another thread. It reminded me that I have this tape. It was given to me by a member of the band many years ago. It was recorded after the LP, when the band decided to go in a heavier direction, more influenced by Slayer. I don't know the date, I'm guessing 88 or 89.

Track listing:
1. Slow Painful Death
2. Save Us All
3. Enter The Living Dead

Enjoy !

I have a couple of sealed copies of the ASSAULT "Survival in the Streets" album on cassette for sale if anyone is interested. I can sell them rather cheaply, but postage might be a little expensive. The rates went up in Canada again recently. E-mail: rossbaycult at yahoo dot ca if you are interested.

EDIT: Also, listened to this demo, KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heavier than "Survival in the Streets" for sure!!!!

I actually quite enjoyed this. For a demo, the sound quality is rather good. This definitely shows a change in the bands sound to straight forward, no bullshit Thrash Metal. I can't say that I prefer this to the full-length album from the year before though, as I consider that to be the epitome of this bands sound. Even though Russel remained on vox, I can't grasp the different vocal approach, as it's not suiting for him. I believe that this demo would have been even better if he would have kept his original vocal style from "Survival In The Street" which would have put the band into that "few and far between" category of Thrash with higher pitched vocals. The songs could also be a bit longer as they don't seem to quite develop to full potential, but then again, this is only a demo. Overall, minor complains on my behalf, this is a very interesting, solid effort.

Thanks again for the re-upload omen :)
