NWOBM - Dragonslayer

Post by EzraCobb »

I recently picked up the SKR release of Dragonslayer..

I never heard these guys before I picked up the beautiful orange viynal release from SKR.. Vocals are very good - great riffing...

Do any members of this forum have any thoughts on Dragonslayer? I like 'em a lot,,,

Great band. I too picked up the SKR release a while back. I had only heard the single and the 7 track 1986 demo, which is a bloody minor classic, previously. The earlier demo tracks on the release was a nice surprise. Lots of great songs there, like "Run Like Hell", "Man in the Dark", "Hammerhead" etc.

A good one, indeed.

Another great release job by Shadow Kingdom Records, otherwise that band would have passed me. Never heard of them before.

And you can never have enough fantasy-cover with warrior vs. dragon!

I've never been a big fan of the EP but the SKR release is pretty good, with most of the songs being much better than the ones featured on the EP.

That's so true. I loved their 1986 demo, but I was never too big a fan of the EP. That's why it was so surprising to me to find that the early demo had several songs that really stood head and shoulders above the EP. I'd even like to nominate "Run Like Hell" as their best song. Such an addictive, fist pounding main riff. Steel seldom get that hot.

The LP gatefold contains a very interesting Interview & lots of band photos chronicling there career. In the interview the original guitarist talks about them losing there original bassist (i think the guy rules - love him in all tracks - ) and how the band started to go downhill after they got the new bassist.. The final nail in the coffin for DragonSlayer was when they were told to sound like motley crue.. So there is one Band photo with the new bassist and they look like POISON!! very funny photo - u can tell there was a ton of hair spray used and the new bassist looked like a chick... but that must have been there attempt at being more like the Crue.. they dressed up like girls and did the "glam" thing everyone else was doing in the late 80's.

Sucks that such a great band was ignored & forced to imitate posers like motlye crue.
