Cloven Hoof - A Sultan's Ransom

y'know, the material here is almost entirely excellent, but it's like... it should have been wearing everyday pants but instead it's got some horrible shiny stuff on... there's this "80's pop-metal" sheen it would have been much better without. I think the synths and the vocals are mainly responsible for this. Possibly production as well.Huge Maiden-influence too, I've heard some of their older stuff - don't remember it too well - but I certainly don't recall it being this Maiden-sh (this is just an observation, not criticism...). "Mistress of the Forest" - kickass song!

edit: actually, I'm listening to this again and I think my Maiden comment was mostly due to the fact I was listening to "Mistress" at that time. There is a bit of that elsewhere, not to the same extent. I was reading the reviews on RYM, which suggested it sounds like a US metal album, and I'll go with that, even though I'm not really well-versed on US metal...

"Mistress" really sounds like a lost Maiden track, though. They should cover it or something..

A bit rubbish. Even with this chest infection & sore throat, I could do a better job than this vocalist!

btw, what do people here think of the s/t Kruiz album? Just popped into my head for some reason. Haven't listened to it in a while, but I think it's an absolute, total classic.

Haven't put it on in ages. Cheers for the tip.

I like this one, but I wouldn't pay a three-figure sum for an original.
