80's bands gear

I wonder if any Corroseum user could provide any info on an 80's bands gear.

I esp. wonder which equipment was abused by bands like early CF/ Hellhammer, Atlain, VoiVod (up to DH), Black Hole (!), Dwarr (!) ... erm, your suggestion?

Also interested which modern gear would be able to produce sth close to old sound? To me everything new sounds too "fat", so I suspect that sth kewl cannot get out of it.

Could you at least point to a worthwhile place which embraces this topic?

I actually ask for creation of this board when I heard EM established one there. But I am not supposed to go there. Or what?

As far as I know, 80% of Metal bands used Marshall amps and metalsound pedals, not to mention the usual Flying-V guitars, or those of Gobson and Ibañez

Metalsound is/ was a trademark? I really cannot remind myself, what distorts my friends used. Boss pedals - yes, no that was later. Ah nevermind, I'll solve the prob myself.

I think the RAT distortion pedals were pretty common on the early thrash recordings. I know Metallica used that for Kill 'em all for example.
It's really hard to get the sound fitting for classic metal nowadays. I don't know what to do really. It's like all pedals just gives to much distortion

That's what I wanted to hear and it's TRUE. New pedals give quasi-massive distortion. And when one cannot handle them properly ... They just fart. And you can lose a year prior to get anything useful out of them. Where would I find the RAT? On e-Bay? I'm not at home there.

I don't know where to get a RAT pedal at all, except for eBay that is. I think that there's some new edition of the RAT pedal available as well, that should sound the same way the original did.

Yes i think Ibanez guitars are too modern!I prefer older guitars that used commonly by the 80's HM bands like Gibson,Kramer(more???)tunately i don't afford to buy that brands of guitar they cost too fuckin lot!Some cheap solutions to get a proper brand for 80's playing for about 300 Euro.My favourite guitar shape is Flying-V(actually i play only with this)
I need recommendations to plan to get my new guitar after nearly 8 years!!
Any European Guitars??German Guitars???

try Dean guitars, i just bought a dean flying V and has an exquisite classic sound....too good to be true

I guess that Marshalls were the order of the day(JCM 800 was steamin' and kickin' MAJOR ASS),weren't they?

And as far as guitars are concerned....well,Flying Vs were very common and from that they had Kramer,Hamer,Ibanez was great back at the day and off course Jackson.Gibson reigned supreme but then again Gibson always did./..............................

Mind that the 80ies was the era were guitarists used to improvize and change the shit out of their instruments (talkin' about electronics and body parts)..................

Pedals and pre-amps?The Jmp-1(Marshall that is)was a common thing,Rat pedals were also there,Tha Mad Professor did the trick one too many times

I'm not really an expert on these but I guess the most important thing is the amp you use, you can't really totally change the specific, personal sound of an amplifier, so I think you can't get the true old-school sound from any new high-gain amplifier no matter what distortion pedal or modelling you use. Maybe you can get close but it's never the same in my opinion. So the best way is of course to to use vintage valve amps like Marshall JCM 800's which were the most used amps in the 80's as far as I know. I have that amp and I can't express in words how much I love the sound.

Here's what I used back in the day:

Paradize:
I used a Gibson Les Paul Standard and ran it through a small Roland combo that was in the studio. i sounded like crap!

Overdrive "Reflexions"
Janne: Gibson Les Paul Standard (w DiMarzio Super Distortion pick up), Marshall 100w Super Bass (modded with master volume) and a J&J distortion pedal.
Kjell: Gibson SG (the red one he still uses) and a Marshall Super Lead 100w, plus a J&J Distortion pedal.

Overdrive "Metal Attack"
Janne: Gibson Les Paul Standard (w DiMarzio Super Distortion), Marshall 100w Super Lead (rented) and a J&J distortion pedal.
Kjell: Gibson SG (the red one he still uses) + the Gibson leas Paul Gold Top (still has it) and a Marshall Super Lead 100w (rented), plus a J&J Distortion pedal.

Overdrive "Swords And Axes"
Janne: Ibanez Destroyer (w DiMarzio Super Dist pick up), Ibanez Tube Screamer and a rented Marshall Super Lead 100w
Kjell: Warmuth Strat, The SG and his J&J pedal through a Marshall Super Lead.
