80's bands gear
80's bands gear
I wonder if any Corroseum user could provide any info on an 80's bands gear.
I esp. wonder which equipment was abused by bands like early CF/ Hellhammer, Atlain, VoiVod (up to DH), Black Hole (!), Dwarr (!) ... erm, your suggestion?
Also interested which modern gear would be able to produce sth close to old sound? To me everything new sounds too "fat", so I suspect that sth kewl cannot get out of it.
Could you at least point to a worthwhile place which embraces this topic?
I actually ask for creation of this board when I heard EM established one there. But I am not supposed to go there. Or what?

Yes i think Ibanez guitars are too modern!I prefer older guitars that used commonly by the 80's HM bands like Gibson,Kramer(more???)tunately i don't afford to buy that brands of guitar they cost too fuckin lot!Some cheap solutions to get a proper brand for 80's playing for about 300 Euro.My favourite guitar shape is Flying-V(actually i play only with this)

I guess that Marshalls were the order of the day(JCM 800 was steamin' and kickin' MAJOR ASS),weren't they?
And as far as guitars are concerned....well,Flying Vs were very common and from that they had Kramer,Hamer,Ibanez was great back at the day and off course Jackson.Gibson reigned supreme but then again Gibson always did./..............................
Mind that the 80ies was the era were guitarists used to improvize and change the shit out of their instruments (talkin' about electronics and body parts)..................

I'm not really an expert on these but I guess the most important thing is the amp you use, you can't really totally change the specific, personal sound of an amplifier, so I think you can't get the true old-school sound from any new high-gain amplifier no matter what distortion pedal or modelling you use. Maybe you can get close but it's never the same in my opinion. So the best way is of course to to use vintage valve amps like Marshall JCM 800's which were the most used amps in the 80's as far as I know. I have that amp and I can't express in words how much I love the sound.

I used a Gibson Les Paul Standard and ran it through a small Roland combo that was in the studio. i sounded like crap!
Overdrive "Reflexions"
Janne: Gibson Les Paul Standard (w DiMarzio Super Distortion pick up), Marshall 100w Super Bass (modded with master volume) and a J&J distortion pedal.
Kjell: Gibson SG (the red one he still uses) and a Marshall Super Lead 100w, plus a J&J Distortion pedal.
Overdrive "Metal Attack"
Janne: Gibson Les Paul Standard (w DiMarzio Super Distortion), Marshall 100w Super Lead (rented) and a J&J distortion pedal.
Kjell: Gibson SG (the red one he still uses) + the Gibson leas Paul Gold Top (still has it) and a Marshall Super Lead 100w (rented), plus a J&J Distortion pedal.
Overdrive "Swords And Axes"
