MERCENARY - She's Evil/Plastic Eyes 7"
A bunch of people have asked me for mp3s of this single since I posted it for sale. My only excuse for not posting it here is pure laziness, so here you go:

FINALLY remembered this one and has been playing it on repeat for the last half'n'hour. The A-side is great but "Plastic Eyes" is a fucking ANTHEM!
Guess I missed the train as far as trading myself a copy goes? Aw well..
Now what about that tape that someone bragged about? It had the same cover art, but is it the same recording?

After Mercenary formed they recorded the songs from the single, plus a few others, full and complete. No others ever got released. Kevin was writting some new stuff in 1983 and had almost finished all the parts. He recorded him playing the guitar on a tape just to have, and he had some lyrics (not finished) written down. Then he died. Many years later Fred (Legend) came accross the tapes and the band took Kevin's recordings and finished the songs the way Kevin would have wanted. They used his personal guitar recordings and recorded everything else to them, to finish Kevin's final work. Thats what was on the Tribute tape. The songs werent finished or recorded by the band at the time of Kevin's death, it was all many years later. 200 copies of the tape were pressed.Black Axe wrote:That tape has four different songs, so it's probably not the same recording, but it might be from the same sessions.DaN wrote:Now what about that tape that someone bragged about? EDIT----------------------
Im not certain, but it sounds like the band filled in the missing parts of the Final Dream lyrics to refer to Kevin and his death.
The man who held his sword high,
Lies still, on his bed,
A victim of this fatal dream,
The warrior is dead!
Titans clash,
Mirrors smash,
The battle rages on! (Legend quote!)
Blade hits blade,
Connection made,
In another world, beyond!
----------------------------------------
AMAZING fucking song. The lyrics are very similar to what happened (metaphoricaly, Kevin being the fallen warrior), as Kevin died in his sleep and was found in his bed the next morning. Then the Legend quote is thrown in along with the "in another world, beyond" thing. Its weird. On the night of Kevin's overdose John Cappocitti (Mercenary's singer) and Kevin's girlfriend both dream't that they had woken up in the middle of the night to find Kevin standing in the doorway to thier rooms, just looking at them and not saying anything. Then they woke up the next morning and heard what had happened. Although John isnt religous (I dont know the girlfriend) they both believe that it was Kevin's soul come to bid them his final farewell. I dont believe in the supernatural or anything, its just a really strange (and really fucking sad) coincidence, I guess...
Cool lyrics either way.BloodOfChrist wrote:The man who held his sword high,

Yes! Steve Negri's violin 32nd notes on Final Dream make me say "Holy shit!" every time I here them. I didnt know that was possible! Everyone played so well on that tape, its a shame Kevin wasnt around to see it...Black Axe wrote:Wow, spooky. They did a great job with those 4 songs, as they're as killer as the 7".
Mercenary is one of the only bands where I actually look forward to the keyboard solos.

R.I.P.
Not at all! I still have one set aside for you. Was waiting for you to reply to my PM.DaN wrote:FINALLY remembered this one and has been playing it on repeat for the last half'n'hour. The A-side is great but "Plastic Eyes" is a fucking ANTHEM!![]()

And I had the same reaction when I got it. Just kept playing it over and over.

"She's evil" has a great evil feeling somewhat similar to "Wizard's vengeance", the main riff is killer!
"Plastic eyes" is dominated by some excellent keys, more in the Pendragon vein, cool tune as well!
Thanks a lot, Keir!

Good against Evil, Evil sure to win
