Re: PAGAN ALTAR 'The Room of Shadows'
Alan, I didn't read your entire massive review, but in general to me this album just fits a slot on the shelf. I enjoyed listening to it and I really like the overall look of the lp version, but when it gets down to brass knuckles it cannot stand up to the other albums. This being said nothing else in the discography stands up against the first album. Period.

"Room of Shadows" was quite the let down for me. Nowhere near the godly "Mythical And Magical".

Omen- glad you got a laugh out of it, I was afraid some folks might fail to see the humor if they got all huffy that I dared disparage a PA album.
Rob- yeah I agree, it completes the set of PA albums on my shelf.... and doesn't do much else.
Kristian- yep, agreed.

Six. Years. Later.
Wow, I was in quite the mood in 2018, wasn't I? LOL
I recently worked my way back through the PA discography (you can see the results over on YouTube, link below). While my initial irritation with 'Room of Shadows' eventually wore off, I never did warm up to the album much. It's OK but it is a noticeable step down from their first three albums. To be fair, it's certainly not worse than most albums put out by veteran acts 'getting the band back together' in the past 6 years and in fact it's probably better than 90+% of such offerings. I think for many fans, myself included, those first three albums set the bar so high that anything which didn't match them in greatness was going to be considered a big disappointment.
Rumors abound that the band is toiling away with their new vocalist Brendan Radigan (from STONE DAGGER, SUMERLANDS, MAGIC CIRCLE, etc) so here's hoping we hear some new material from PA in the near future.

Yeah, the AI bots currently making themselves at home here have a habit of delving back in time & resuurecting old posts. This quirk is often the thing which provides the initial impulse to treat the posts with suspicion. Unlike their human counterparts here they tend to say a lot without really saying anything.
Regardless, it's always a treat to happen across you here Alan, hope life's treating you well.

For the record, I still stand by my previous comment.

Cheers 'Kit! Have the bots gotten into Corroseum? Time for DaN to call the virtual exterminators.

Despite whatever defects this album can have, it has some fantastic moments. Plus, it had this aura of nearing death, like those late Johnny Cash albums, which an unique mark on the album.
Yeah, this one isn't the perfect record like its predecessor, but I love its intimate atmosphere.
