Heavy load/glacier/witch cross type reccomendations
Looking for some new music, specifically heavily guitar lead driven, melodic traditional metal with clean vocals. Lyrics relating to fantasy/ history/ mythology would be a definite plus. The best bands I could think of as an idea of the sort of stuff I'm thinking of are heavy load and glacier. Sorry if that's not very specific, some recommendations would be cool though.

This is great, hadn't heard the EP yet. I'll have to pick it up. Loved the "Rising" demo though.rumblefist wrote:If you wish to support a new band, i can recommend this :

I think Gotham City "The Unknown" and Emeral "Armed for Battle" should fill the bill.
Gargoyle might fit the decription too, although their music does not sound that straightofward.
How about Viper's debut?
Some others which might belong her too (even though not exactly what you maybe looking for):
Kreyson - Angel On the Run
Excess - Melting Point
Maniac - Watch Out
Crom - Steel for an Age
Hades - Entre la Fuego y Cruz
Virtue, Orialix, Prorock, Caress, Halifax, Commander etc
I recall the Screamer demo which was added to Posionoise sounded like that (ad least some songs did) but wil have to listen to it again

Cheers! Gotham city and emerald are definitely the sort of stuff I'm thinking of. Both have the clean high vocals and the atmosphere somewhere between triumphant and melancholy, as with the others I named. Listening to Gargoyle now, very cool. Viper didn't grab me too much I have to say though. Gonna work through the rest as I get time.Herkus Monte wrote:I think Gotham City "The Unknown" and Emeral "Armed for Battle" should fill the bill.

The closest band to Glacier is probably hands down Sacred Heart although they never put out a record, they have a handful of demos. "The Vision" being the most well known.
Other then that:
Xcel - Deliver This Dream
X-Caliber - Warriors Of The Night
Randy (Again never released a record but a few demos)
Medieval Steel - S/T EP
Crystal Knight - S/T
Blind Fury - Out Of Reach
Warminister - Out Of The Ashes EP
Mindless Sinner - Turn On The Power
Villain - Only Time Will Tell EP
Adrian - One Step Into The Uncertian
Redstorm - No Exeption Of A Victim Of Crime
Alloy Czar - Demos
Siren - No Place Like Home
Axe Victims - Another Victim
Sacred Rite - Is Nothing Sacred
Madison - Diamond Mistress
Palass - Queen Of The World
Universe - S/T
Virgin Steele - Guardians Of The Flame
Xalt - Under The Ruins
To a lesser extent:
Fifth Angel - S/T
Q5 - Steel The Light
Decoy Paris - Love On The Run EP
Odin - Fight For Your Life
Lynx - Caught In The Trap
Wolf - Edge Of The World
Messiah Prophet - Master Of The Metal
Mirage - And The Earth Shall Crumble EP
Dagger - Not Afraid Of The Night
Alien Force - Hell And High Water
Scavenger - Battlefields
That should keep you busy for a bit.

Re: Heavy load/glacier/witch cross type reccomendations
This song sounds not unlike the bands mentioned above:

The problem is that the rest of the album bears a much more radio-friendly approach (and on the 2nd album the band would go totally commercial). I have read that Fatum had had much more powerful, much heavier songs before recorded their debut LP, so "Bezlitosne Fatum" might be just a reminiscent of that period. Unfortunately, I have never heard those tracks, I do not even know i they are available on the Internet, or just were played only live and never taped.

Re: Heavy load/glacier/witch cross type reccomendations
Those are all good bands, but I've heard them a billion times already. I've been getting more into Japanese neoclassical/shred metal, so if you want something a tad more melodic, albeit as heavy, then I'd recommend checking out some of the stuff on Mandrake Root Records. My favorite release from Japan is Precious' To Glory We Steer. Terra Rosa's The Endless Basis, Anthem's Tightrope, and Onmyouza's Koujin Rasetsu aren't too far behind on my list.

If you are mentioning neoclassical/shred bands you are not in the right thread.Forces of Steel wrote:Those are all good bands, but I've heard them a billion times already. Re: Heavy load/glacier/witch cross type reccomendations
I said that I've been getting into heavy/power metal bands that flirt with neoclassical/shred metal, and not just playing that genre itself. It's not like I came in to say to listen to Cacophony or Yngwie J. Malmsteen.
I mentioned a couple of albums that I find pretty heavy, but also melodic. Japan isn't as genre-restricted as the West is.

The thread topic is bands that sound like Heavy Load/Glacier/Witch Cross. Not what's currently on your play list...

Vanguard from Sweden - I discovered that band only recently and I think it's awesome. In this song you can hear similarities to all three bands mentioned in the thread title.

Here is a band which sounds quite similar to the aforementioned ones:

Too bad this song sounds good but not outstanding. It is lacking a more memorable chorus.

Loose Connnection

Specifically the 2nd song, 'Midnight Passage' which begins at 4:04. Wouldn't sound out of place on 'Metal Conquest'.
