CRACKED MIRROR - Demo (1979)

Post by bigfootkit »

I thought some of the NWoBHM fans on the forum would appreciate hearing this. This six song 1979 demo is far superior to their 1983 S/T LP.
Not the heaviest thing you'll ever hear, but very solid, with some great guitar playing.
Enjoy!

CRACKED MIRROR were a four piece NWoBHM band formed in Maidstone, Kent in 1978, by talented young guitarist Jozef 'Joe' Rytlewski.
The band's line-up was completed by Vocalist Colin Winn, Bassist Steve Smile & former STATIC EMOTION Drummer Chris Sambrook.
The band gigged extensively in the local area before recording a six song demo tape which was then used to secure live bookings further afield.
This line up gigged steadily for the next few years, both on their own and as support to like-minded acts such as DIE LAUGHING & HEAD ON, building up a strong live following, especially on England's South Coast.
With lead singer Colin Winn leaving the band in late 1981, drummer Chris Sambrook also then departed to join SLAYVE.
Cracked Mirror then brought in former SHADOWFAX & HOOKER drummer Kevin White and Hammond Organist Jackie Hazel, with vocals now being split between Rytlewski & Smile.
Paul Harbin then replaced the outgoing White on the drum stool in early 1983, with Steve Smile then also replaced by Michael White on Bass & Vocals.
This is the line up which recorded Cracked Mirror's only album, a self-titled affair released in late 1983 on their own label.
Original copies of this album change hands for anything up to £500 these days, as only 200 copies of the album were ever pressed.
However, the musical direction of the album is markedly softer in approach when compared to the earlier demo recordings, being more of a 'Rock' record with very little of the 'Hard' in evidence.
Cracked Mirror carried on playing until 1987, but released no further material in that time.
Following the dissilution of Cracked Mirror, Rytlewski formed a new band, FIVE BOB ROCKET, later playing with THE PULLBACKS and jamming live with JOHN MARTYN.
He currently fronts the JOE RYTLEWSKI BAND and also has a blues act, the aptly named JOE'S BLOOZE BAND.
