Origin of guitar solo credits

Post by Linus »

Members of The Corroseum, greetings. I'm Linus of Los Angeles. Reading forum topics is enlightening. I'm seeking the origin of guitar solo credits in songs that have more than one guitar soloist.

I believe Heavy Metal to at least, be arrogant. It's not enough to have named the band members positions or song writing credits. Solos need separate identification. Aspiring guitar gods may have urged this credit. Guitar solo supremecy in tandems is sometimes noted in liner notes. What band started this? What album started this?

My hunch is it may be Teutonic based from mid 80's.

Initially, a conversation of Helloween's Walls of Jericho, 1985, triggered my interest. The album has large guitar solo sections showcasing Hansen/Weikath each respectfully credited each solo. More notes, more speed and more credit may have been their intent here. Could this be the origin?

Metal Heart, 1985, Accept's Hoffman and Jorge list the different types of guitars used on each song for lead and rhythm. However, most songs were single part solos. http://ximmix.mixeriksson.com/bilder/me ... 1806_2.jpg

Schuldiner's Death (U.S.) from Spiritual Healing, 1990, onwards, also credit songs with multiple part solos, respectfully to the individual guitarist.

Does anyone know the origin of crediting multi part guitar solo soloists?
