I believe Heavy Metal to at least, be arrogant. It's not enough to have named the band members positions or song writing credits. Solos need separate identification. Aspiring guitar gods may have urged this credit. Guitar solo supremecy in tandems is sometimes noted in liner notes. What band started this? What album started this?
My hunch is it may be Teutonic based from mid 80's.
Initially, a conversation of Helloween's Walls of Jericho, 1985, triggered my interest. The album has large guitar solo sections showcasing Hansen/Weikath each respectfully credited each solo. More notes, more speed and more credit may have been their intent here. Could this be the origin?

Schuldiner's Death (U.S.) from Spiritual Healing, 1990, onwards, also credit songs with multiple part solos, respectfully to the individual guitarist.
