Opinions about your favourite bands list.

Post by Vaggelis »

I don't want see here lists about bands.I only want to ask your opinions.Do you have some personal list. And when a list ends at 200 fave bands 300?,500?1000?And what does it means when a band is out of this list.

And if you have a list does this remain stable through the years?Or does it changes every month?! :)

I don't have any lists these days, think they're stupid. I don't need anyone to know all the bands I like. What does it mean anyway, you listen to thousands of random songs you like throughout time.
Are you the tyrant, who cast them to the sea?

I only have a top 1 band, it's not because they are the best band around but because they have the most sentimental value to me. Besides that the list would change so often it is pointless to even try to start keeping one.

Not a "list" per see but sure I know what my favorite bands. A group of maybe ten bands I consider to be the best and most meaningful to me. It never changes, the only thing that might happen is I discover this amazing band new to me that eventually gets put in the pantheon, but that has not happened for many years now.

Then of course there are tons of other bands or single albums I enjoy a lot.

Yes ... I have a top 150 favorite/ classic list of my most played albums of alltime.

I usually collect every worldwide pressing of these titles. And try to find copies of these album in mint condition, year in and year out...these are easy to find, when someone who loves heavy metal, suddenly gets rid of his collection, for whatever reason. I could careless, as long it is someone else who gives up on metal and not me.

And have multiple copies of these releases. I have in s storage a military footlocker of these, in the event of a fire or act of god, or whatever. So If I had to rebuild my collection, I have the solid foundation are ready in place, you know the classic/ essential/ mind blowing/ killer metal releases.

I know what bands are at the top 1% of the bell curve, and I know what band are at the lower 1%, it is just the bands that are in the middle/ mediocre part of the top of the curve, that are over-hype and over-rated. You know the contender-tier, then the pretender-tier, then the poser-tier

I am honest enough to admit that I listen to music in a subjective way.

I am always looking for bands with faster and heavier riffs, with better songwriting with a eye for originality. Than the previous genereations. This to me is how metal evolved from NWOBHM to Speed to Power to Thrash to Death to Black Metal.

My list is the upper 10% of the upper 10% of metallic gods. Most bands in the lower
85 percentile do nothing for me, since they come across as fake/ phony and it appears got into metal for all the wrong reasons. This is the vibes that come across.

My list is just common sense, if your house was on fire, and could only grab 9 arm fulls of your favorite release... What 200 or so albums are the most original and mindblowing. Knowing my criteria, you know what is on my list.

what i have experienced through the years is that i have too many favorite albums, and on the contrary my "list" of fave bands keep decreasing... maybe too much one-album-wonders back in the day?
