I would rather buy 200 records I like than spending endless of money on 4000 records I don't. Who gives a shit if it's a so called "collection" or not?
I probably have around 200 12"s and 250 7"s and I like em all.

So you're not a true collector unless you own thousands of records you don't like and never listen to? Seems like a pointless endeavor to me. Fine then, I'm happy to be a music fan with my smaller, well-trimmed collection of albums I love and listen to regularly, than tons of crap that just takes up shelf space and looks impressive to strangers on the internet.

At the beginning of the 90s i bought everything that came in, wanted to have a huge collection, like 5000 or more. But nowdays i'd rather prefer spend a few bucks more in a record that I really like, than buying 10 or 20 LPs for only $ 1 that i do not like and that just take up space in my house. I´d just don´t buy records to impresse no one!! But each one has their opinion ...

It's no wonder the prices on metal records have gone through the roof, they're all sitting on the shelves of stamp collectors who hate the music and can do nothing but talk about how crappy it is, but won't give them up to people who actually like them.

Well I actually did wait very long for some records to finally get them, sending tons of letters, later e-mails, discussed for trades, conditions, paid a hell of postage to Australia, Brazil, Colombia, was ripped off by several guys, stolen money in the letters to South America etc, traded my whole late 80's/early 90's CD Collection for records ... I don't give away something "just so" that cost me all that energy and dedication.

and once you got all the 200 records that you like, WHAT WILL YOU DO THEN?
I like discovering undiscovered bands and 70 % are average or crap but wtf? At least I do something to get a survey about all possible bands and I get future raries cheap this way while others who just sit and wait have to pay the prices when 500 collectors want that special record!

There are people who have collections of 10000 records and more. So you can imagine they got EVERYTHING that is connected with Metal/Hard Rock/AOR. And everyone mocking about them is nothing but jealous that it isn't his collection. Sorry guys, but truth hurts.

I'm also jealous on certain other guys having records that I don't have so where's the problem?

That's ridiculous. Who cares if you put a lot of effort into obtaining a certain record only to find out that you don't like it? That's your own damn fault for not doing a little research prior to the purchase. I would rather see records go to people that actually enjoy them rather then have them sit on a shelf just so that you can inflate your internet ego with how big your collection is. It has nothing to do with jealousy; it's simply common sense. I'm pretty sure there is still records out there that you don't have that you actually enjoy listening to and even if it was a perfect world and there wasn't I could think of a thousand other things outside of Metal to spend money on because the collection would then be "complete".

When did you start record collecting? Prohably in internat age judging by your answer, Start to do a research with snail mail. Whom do you want to ask???

And still nowadays certain records do not exit in the www, youtube or somewhere because they are simply too obscure/locally limited and try to ask collectors with big wallet, do you think they will send you a sound sample or say it's crap? If they do so and it's crap they'd never have the chance to get rid of that record for the highest possible price. And that's why people like I got so much Poser/Hard Rock shit that noone really needs. On the other hands it's a funny feeling when your friends ask you on the phone: "Do you have ... no, how does LP xy sound like?"

Yeah, that's my copy but the seller sells all possible stuff and I think the album was even listed in a "shitty section" so even though he wrote Hair/Glam Metal it doesn't have to be that.

I've bough many Hair/Glam Metal/Hard Rock called vinyls that in the end have been Rock like that Nightshade 7" 1984 from the US. There's no info to find of such records. It's buy or die. If you're not fast enough you could miss a gem ...
