Oh my oh my... Another case of an atrocious career-move from a young & inexperienced band. So sad.. You see, as an opening track for their important first offering upon the altar of the Metal Gods they regurgitated a completely useless, throwaway ballad
and I'm sure many Cali metalheads at the time threw this straight in the trash after the first few seconds of play.
However for us less impulsive Metal fans, there is some reward for our patience.
Soundwise, this is pretty much amateur demo-Metal put to vinyl and the first real tune, "Por Que?" only scores points on being just that - a real Heavy Metal tune.
It is stumbling and awkward and with its 7-and-a-half minute playing time way too long for its own good. So they do manage to squeeze in a few unexpected twists and turns during these looooong minutes, but basically it just chug-chug-chugs along without leaving any lasting impressions what so ever. Por que? indeed..
On the flipside things start to look a whole lot brighter. "Todo Iba Bien" starts off with a pure Maiden-worshipping guitar harmony and unless you're a complete originality-or-bust nazi that's always good news. It's another long one (6+ min) but significantly easier on the senses and all its various parts are fairly well put together. Hell, on a good day I might even go so far as to call it a great tune ...and the closing "Escapar" does not disappoint! Neither is this one a staple of originality, but it carries all the proper ingredients of a driven, catchy piece of demo-Steel.
I could probably have lived without the flushing toilet sound effect at the end though.
Here's a sad final thought: If only the A and B sides had been reversed, I think the overall feel & vibe of this EP would have been
much improved and there's at least a chance that it would have spurred more interest among international HM vinyl collectors with a taste for the exotic through the years. It does after all look kinda cool and obscure with just that metallic logo on a white blank sleeve. For semi-completists only?
